Bedtime Rituals to Try out Before the Next Angelic War by Budinca

Summary
He hadn’t even managed to put on shoes when Charlie’s loud, desolated groan at the other end of the hotel had made him rush out of his room, and his slippers and the hems of his pyjama bottoms were slowly getting soaked through. Why the fuck had he even bothered to change? He loved Charlie (see constants no. 1-4), but even he had to admit his current discomfort was solely the result of the list of healthy bedtime rituals she’d organised for him when, allegedly, the bags under his eyes had started developing a gravitational pull.
In which Lucifer has insomnia, the hotel is moderately alive, and Alastor is in over his head.

Summary
“What do you want?”
“Just a conversation, Husker. Isn’t that what I said?”
“You say a lot of shit.”
Alastor is silent for a moment. Husk shuts his eyes briefly, still not facing him. Fuck. He’s overplayed his hand.
Or: After Lucifer leaves, Alastor and Husk come to an understanding.

Summary
“To me,” Vox told the baby, “it seems like bad parenting to leave your helpless kid for a whole month with two unstable psychopaths and their parole officer. But hey. Who am I to judge.”
No intelligent reply was forthcoming.
Or: not-so accidental baby acquisition, starring the three least responsible idiots this side of the Pentagram.

Summary
Vox's screen fills his field of vision, arresting his spiraling thoughts.
He's holding a needle and thread.
Alastor's smile is curdling at the edges, but he doesn't break eye contact. Vox's gaze devours him, always so wide and hungry, but there's something else lurking in his expression that has Alastor not quite as wary as he should be, perhaps, because it's not sadism or even cruelty in the way Vox is looking at him now. Vox's smile is calmer. He's quieter, no longer jumpy with excitement like he'd been earlier today, although still smug and a little too pleased with himself. Far more tolerable than before, at least.
"How about it?" Vox says, cocking an eyebrow. He holds the needle like an offering, like Alastor has a choice.
Alastor deliberately leans back, letting his head rest against the wall with the vain hope that it will make the room stop spinning. "By all means."
Or: Finally alone together, Alastor reopens some emotional wounds as Vox fixes his physical ones.

Summary
When he grabs Vox again, Vox doesn't come easy—he lashes out blindly with claws and rakes them across Val's cheek, opening a thin gash, and Val grunts as he seizes both of Vox's wrists with his two lower hands and takes hold of Vox's shoulders with his upper ones. Sparks prickle against his skin, sharp and biting, but Vox isn't trying to electrocute him—he's just vibrating like one large livewire, overloading just like the machine beside them.
"No—no, don't fucking—you can't—"
Vox struggles, jerking against Val's grip, breath coming in desperate, labored gasps. Val doesn't let go. Because that was never really the question, was it?
There is no world in which Val lets him go.
Or: Valentino handles Vox's crashout a little differently.

Summary
Husk almost argued on principle, but he knew better than anyone that having a good poker face wasn’t the same as being a trickster. Alastor had taught him that well. He just wasn’t cut out for the type of beguiling fae shit Alastor got up to with his deals—back at the casino, risk and loss were as straightforward a business as Husk could run, given the circumstances. There was something almost clean about it. What Alastor did always left Husk feeling like he needed a long scrub in the shower afterward.
Or: Husk and Alastor run an errand.

Summary
For all that Lucifer must be holding himself back, the grip around his upper arms is a sharp biting thing, a cold burn searing almost to the bone. Perhaps tomorrow the shade of it will remain, proof of Alastor’s own power, of his self-determination.
Because it is a kind of power, to be able to provoke such emotion from this useless shell of a man. The most powerful being in Hell focused on him so uniquely, so violently, when so often he seems lost in his own apathy. This is the Pride ring, after all, and Alastor has never denied his own hubris.
Perhaps that's why he can't let this go.

Summary
It was an uncomfortable feeling to realise he’d overstepped when her face fell in genuine hurt, nails digging into her sleeves as her eyes darted back to the rain now lashing against the windowpanes.
“No, you couldn’t know,” she said, and then paused— and wasn’t that just perfectly, ridiculously Charlie, making excuses for his misstep as though the fault was her own —“it’s this weather, he…“ There was another pause as she fumbled over her words. “He doesn’t do… well, when it’s stormy.”

Summary
"So…" Lucifer was twirling his cane idly between his fingers as he drew the word out, staring first up at the high arched ceiling, then to the ridiculously imposing fireplace and finally down at the elaborate tiled floor - looking anywhere, it would seem, except at Alastor. "What do you think?"
Lucifer shows Alastor the palace.

Summary
"How long have we known each other?"
It took Lucifer a moment to parse the relevance of that question, blinking slowly with the palm of Alastor's hand against his mouth, warm and dry. He bit it gently and Alastor gave his cheeks a final squeeze before withdrawing his touch to allow him to answer.
"I—" No matter how often it happened, he always felt faintly blindsided when forced to confront the vagaries of his memory. Would Alastor be offended that he didn't actually remember? Had it been just one year? Except, no, because there had been far too many guests at the hotel for that now. Three years, or maybe five? He swallowed and gave a weak laugh. "Does it matter?"
Except that was probably a worse answer, and from the narrowing of Alastor's eyes and the discordant, crackling sound of a buzzer that signaled wrong, wrong, wrong, he knew he'd misstepped somehow.

Summary
There, sitting on the edge of Alastor's bed, legs lazily crossed with one hand splayed out behind him, is Lucifer. His expression is strangely inscrutable, and Alastor despises the way it crawls down over him, taking in every loathsome detail of the humiliating state he's found himself in.
"Get out," he rasps—because there's no use asking how he got in. There probably isn't a single place in Hell that could keep Lucifer out if he put his mind to it. "Or are you enjoying the view that much?"
"Honestly?" Though Lucifer does not exactly smile, a dark shadow of amusement dances across his face before being replaced by something more resigned, almost disappointed. "Not as much as I thought I would. It's kind of pathetic, actually."
Alastor hadn't wanted anyone to see him like this, least of all Lucifer.

Summary
“Do you get off on being difficult? Are you serious right now?” He swims into crystalline focus for an instant. Lucifer, real. In his bed. Straddling him, pinning him down with the sort of insurmountable strength that poses a problem on a good day, let alone—like this. The panic is back again. Tidal, overwhelming. Again and again and again. “Stop wriggling. Shit, what is wrong with you? Hey. Show me where you’re hurt. Now, please.”
Or: Lucifer frees Alastor from his self-made cage. That doesn’t exactly fix everything.

Summary
Alastor makes it a grand total of thirteen days before collapsing in the lobby. It’s an abjectly humiliating experience for the split-second he’s cognizant of what’s happening before everything goes utterly black.
In which Alastor returns to the hotel and an olive branch is offered over coffee. It’s all very unexceptional.

Summary
After seven years, Heaven has learned of Lucifer's divorce from Lilith. Knowing of Lucifer's reputation as an 'absent king' and fearing a destabilized Hell, they decide to gift him with a new bride - an angel of their own to distract him and keep an eye on him; a puppet. He is gifted Alastor, Heaven's least favourite angel, to be the sacrificial lamb in the Devil's marriage bed.
Alastor was never sure how he made it past the pearly gates, but he's swallowed down his bitterness to be a gentleman and avoid putting shame on his mother's name in Heaven. Now promised to another against his will, Alastor resolves not to go quietly into marital servitude.
