It was a digital camera. It shone a bright metallic red, with silver buttons and black shutters over the lens.
“You’re always saying how these are the best days you’ve ever had,” Jammer said. “And we thought maybe you’d wanna remember them.”
(Evan starts feeling a little differently about his newfound friends. He doesn't know how to deal with that.)

The rose- still a tightly wound bud- was tiny, barely the size of his pinky nail, but exquisite in detail. It looked like a real flower, cast into a paper thin spiral of metal. Like something his parents would make, with his dad’s eye for detail and his mom’s skill hammering metal into sheets so thin you could almost see through them. It was beautiful, but his throat still hurt. Starting as an itch in his chest, building until the urge to cough was unbearable, the rose had clawed its way up his throat until he spat it out onto the table.
Dimly, Gorgug wondered how something so beautiful could come from inside him.
