She looks at him, focusing her will into reaching out and brushing a lock of his hair out of his eyes. “The last time I existed, I was holding you. Sometimes I forget, and start to look for you. My will is strong. Garp forgets too. We wake up and start looking for the baby. For you, Ace.”
“I’m not a baby anymore.”
“Logically, I know that. but only in the sense that it has been nine years since I stopped existing, so you must be nine years old now.” She cups his cheek. “Sometimes I look at you and have no idea who you are.”
The sentiment strikes a pang of fear into Ace and when he looks at Rouge she offers no comfort, staring at him with the same aloof expression she’s had all his life. He had thought—He had thought she was just reserved, too cool to react. Now he’s seized by the fear that this might mean she’s just been… ambivalent to him this entire time.
Ace feels tears rolling down his cheeks, and it’s only because she isn’t real, that he lets her see them. “I’m your baby,” he says, choked up, “Mama, I’m your baby.”

It feels like the water only ever stills when Whitebeard’s about to throw another boneheaded rookie in to disrupt it. Then everyone goes to Marco to whine about how they don’t want another brother. And this brother is clearly too much of a handful. And can’t you talk to Pops, Marcooooo.
The crew is a powder keg on a good day, but like hell is Marco going to let Portgas D. Ace be the thing that sets it off.

“Oh, you saw Kuina.” Luffy says, when Sanji recounts what he just experienced. Luffy found him frozen at the bottom of the stairs and had enough tact to ask what was wrong before asking for lunch. “She’s Zoro’s soulmate.”
“Are you meant to see other people's soulmates?” Sanji asks, still hyperventilating a little bit, “I thought that was a one-on-one kind of experience.”
“If you’re really really close with some people, it happens,” Nami says, from where she’s shamelessly eavesdropping. Sanji feels his heart warmed—she noticed him freezing up and cared enough about him to listen in. Women have such naturally kind and empathetic souls. “It’s something about souls intertwining? I don’t really know the science of it all.”

Summary
Normally on nights like these, Nojiko would hang out the red blanket on the branches to dry. It was her sign to Genzo that Nami was home, so he wouldn’t come and check up on her like he was in the habit of doing in the evenings.
Nojiko should put it up now; but she hesitated. Yes, Nami was home, but this wasn’t her sneaking in in the dead of night. Everyone knew about it. And Nojiko had seen the look on Genzo’s face when Nami had arrived at the docks, accompanied by an unfamiliar Fish-Man instead of her usual escort. She wasn’t sure if even his determination to get Nami to abandon her mission would keep him away right now.
Nojiko couldn’t blame him. Her heart had stopped too, when she’d seen Nami, pale with pain and cradled in the arms of the enormous Fish-Man who had walked into their town.
