Christopher was sitting in the grass in the yard, eating his lunch perfectly peacefully, when his new friend Penny asked him that. It was so sudden and out of the blue, that the question didn’t even register for a moment.
“If he’s like a dad to you, and he’s family and all that jazz, then why don’t you call him dad? Haven’t you ever wanted to?”

Everyone knows (or thinks they know) that Chritopher Diaz has two dads. But he doesn't have two Dads. He has a Dad and a Buck.

Da clears his throat and begins. “Very well. There once was a prince with piercing blue eyes and curls as red-gold as the sun. His beauty was talked about across countries, his name whispered with love all around the world. He was always nice to his subjects, and they loved him for it. The Prince of Kindness, they often called him. He lived in an elaborate castle with the king, focusing on his studies day and night. He was rumoured to be a genius as well, expert at science and music. But the old king hardly ever let him out into public, confiding him to his quarters instead.
Strange, she thought to herself. There were often new details every time she heard this story, but this… this is familiar, somehow.
“The prince was dutiful and obedient, and never once stepped out of line. Until one day, he crossed paths with a charming sharpshooter breaking into the palace…”

The Wesper kid isn’t quite ready to go to bed yet, and so her dads tell her a tale that sounds oddly familiar.

Shane had no issue helping Ilya. He knew English was a frustrating language-knew the struggles that came with having to learn a whole other way to communicate.
And honestly, it gave him a feeling of fulfillment. He loved being helpful, loved being useful.
So he was more than happy to translate when Ilya needed.

Maybe if the video ended there, Shane thought, it would be okay. Okayish. Still incriminating. Still a fucking disaster. Still embarrassing, to have his breakup with this beautiful actress filmed and disseminated on Reddit of all fucking places, but not a nail in his coffin, burying him alive. But the video didn’t end there.
“Can I ask if you’ve ever been with another guy?” she had to ask.
And he, tears visible in his eyes, had to nod.
Just once. Just a single nod.
Why did he have to nod?
“Have you ever told anyone that before?” He shook his head. “Was it different? With a guy?”
“Of course.”

Shane’s conversation with Rose is secretly recorded. Months later, after the All-Star game and Ilya’s confession in Russian, the video gets leaked online. Shane is outed to the world while Ilya is in Russia, and must now finish the 2016-2017 season with the entire world in on his secret.
