Aglaea wants to know why, to nail Cipher to a wall and interrogate her until she is satisfied with the answers, but she knows that any attempts to pry will only push Cipher even further away from her. So she waits, watches, hopes, for a day to come when Cipher is ready to share, until decades turn to centuries and it becomes far too late.
"Cifera takes a nap in the largest tree she can find in the garden, curled in on herself like a cat. Aglaea watches the rise and fall of her chest, the golden threads pulsing with the rhythm of it, committing it to eternal memory. It could have been mistaken for a dead body, honestly. But when V crouched in front of her to take a closer look, the woman grabbed her wrist. Hard.
“I won't hurt you. Promise.” V said, throat impossibly tight. Play it cool. Don't panic. Whatever you do, don't piss your pants. “Gonna bleed out to death if you don't let me help.”
Then, V saw them. Eyes that were the color of the blood in her veins. The woman chuckled.
“How… how many times have you broken that promise?”

So Mi is trying to live after being cured of the Blackwall's corruption, but her nights are plagued by nightmares and her days feel like every minute she spends breathing is nothing but stolen time - as if her life doesn't belong to herself, but someone else. The same someone in her nightmares. The same someone who's probably dead by now - and So Mi knows she killed her as assuredly as if she'd pulled the trigger herself.
It was supposed to be easy.
So Mi had spent so long learning how to stop caring, how to stop letting people in.
She wasn't supposed to fall in love with the woman she was going to condemn to death by her own betrayal.
Then she gets a postcard saying that V is still alive, that Johnny Silverhand is gone - but it only bought V less than half a year by the time So Mi receives the postcard.
But she's alive.
Alive.
And if V is alive...
There's only one place for So Mi to be. Only one thing for her to do.
A week and a half later she buys a one-way ticket out of Tycho Spaceport and back to Earth.
Back to V.
So Mi has an apology to give, a debt to repay, and maybe - maybe - one final confession to make.

She clears her throat, pressing a hand to her chest. “To see that fish in the blackness where the sun’s rays dare not shine… it is as a star; radiant in the depths of the sea. Not unlike your blazing light, which guided me to shore.”
Cerydra takes a long sip of her glass, only to fall silent. Golden ichor drips from the corner of her mouth, and Hysilens resists the urge to reach out, and…
“Were you truly so allured?” Cerydra murmurs, shattering the silent moment almost off-handedly—which is strange—no action of the Imperator's is impromptu in the slightest. She is an angler, a chessmaster. She is patient, composed, and she does not err lightly.
But Cerydra blinks as she looks to Hysilens, as if she too is struck with momentary surprise at her own tongue. Her breath is sweet, and warm against her siren’s scales. And Hysilens nods.
“Yes,” she whispers, for none but her light to hear. “I was.”
