Summary
Obito should have known something was up when he failed to manifest his chakra in school. It wasn't until his placement exam at age 14 that he found out: Obito is a guide. He can't use ninjutsu, but there's still something he's good for.
At 21, he's paired with a freshly-awakened Kekkei Genkai specialist. A Sharingan user. What a slap in the face, right? And the guy's poisoning himself with chakra, of course, so Obito is ordered to the hospital to go save him from himself. He's even nice enough to bring sandwiches.
The problem is that his new partner is Kakashi Hatake, and from today on, they'll be seeing a lot of each other.
Obito would rather eat Gai's used sock.

Obito jolted as a familiar voice spoke up behind him, craning his neck back to look in it's direction while still sat on the filthy alley floor.
"Kakashi—!?"
Fuck, had he died too? Maybe this was the pure lands after all.
"Sorry, do I know you?" Kakashi asked with a nervous tilt of his head, and Obito stilled.
Or, Obito gets zapped into a modern AU and proceeds to lose his fucking mind over the normal civilian Kakashi he finds there.
