To be clear, Ilya is grateful the rookies aren’t growing up the way he did in the NHL. Ilya took the hazing to the chin – humiliation rituals, beat downs, grueling practices to prove he could “hang” with the big guns on the team.
That being said, there’s still some part of Ilya that balks at the request by the gaggle of rookies to watch The Iron Giant, a veritable children’s movie at the team’s latest movie night.
OR: Five times Shane and Ilya were the support system for the Centaur rookies they dreamed of having when they were younger.

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Harris says, holding out a card.
“Feels wrong to be taking a gift from another man,” Ilya quips, but takes it anyway. “What is this? ILY-a lot.” He stares at the card for a long time, jaw set and brows drawing together, before shaking his head. “I don’t get it.”
“Read it again, but slower.”
“ILY-a. Lot.” Ilya pauses, tilting his head and rereading it like the answer might appear if he tries hard enough. “I still don’t get it.”
Harris opens his mouth to explain—a bit annoyed at the idea of having to walk Ilya through the joke—when Shane steps in from the ice, breathless and a bit sweaty, clearly not paying attention as he fiddles with his gear.
“Hollander,” Ilya says immediately. “What does ILY mean?”
Shane blinks. “I love you?”
“Yes, I know you love me. But what does it mean?”
or; it’s February 14, and the Ottawa Centaurs’ question of the day comes in the form of custom-made Valentine’s cards for the players (some good, some not so much).
