Once upon a time, a lonely girl met an abused boy. She gave him a birthday card, he gave her Pixie Stix, and they gave each other confidence. Then they met a stray dog and learned of another world, the sort of world that swallowed brilliant girls and orphan boys whole and left only the bones.
And they decided to Kick. Its. Ass.
They also kind of got engaged, but they'll sort that out later.
(Now a full canon rewrite with 90% less angst and at least 200% more chaos. Highlights include accidental kidnappings, intentional kidnappings, glitterpigs, eldritch horrors, tooth-rotting fluff, bad-ass children, a handful of competent adults, unexpected medieval weaponry, misuse of household cleaning charms & equipment, and unsupervised Lovegoods.)

An epilogue is "A short addition or concluding section at the end of a literary work, often dealing with the future of its characters" per the American Heritage Dictionary online. In a Harry Potter story, it's generally all about What Happens After. After the war, after Voldemort, after Hogwarts... Harry Potter's story isn't over until he gets his Happily Ever After.

Well framed, economically conveys a distinctly different narrative from the original novels, with a satisfying resolution. Unsurprisingly given the title, tying up the Voldemort storyline is seen in its proper context, as a way to get to what happens after. Harry×Hermione×Neville is presented as real love, with the characters' insecurities and hesitations shown and dealt with in a sensible fashion.

I first read this several years ago, and was glad to find it again. This is just really well conceived. Lots of OCs, but they don't weigh down the story as often happens.
I do kind of like to think that Mailia eventually starts coming around, spending time with people who won't pressure her to be "human" or look down on her for choosing to be her furry self.

The Leaf is corrupt, Team Seven is disillusioned and Kakashi suddenly has to figure out how to keep three overpowered Genin safe on the run when the whole world wants to take a bite out of them.A couple of steps to the side may take the path an entirely new direction, a few words chosen differently and the story may have an entirely new ending, and a small band of underestimated and untethered ninja who choose each other above anything else may shift the whole world on its axis.
