The best time to do so is when Hawkmoth is unprepared, aka, when he sends out an Akuma. The plan works, Adrien is fading, and in her grief, Marinette doesn't notice that one last shot from the Akuma went off just before purifying it, sending her who knows where. When she opens her eyes, there's a monster trying to kill some kids. Well, she is still a hero, no matter where she is.
