“rest of the space is yours, picasso.” he gestured to the bed. his music was still blaring from the speaker and now there was the horrifying scrape of boxes across linoleum to accompany it, “what’s your medium? charcoal, paints…?” he drifted off, clearly unable to name another medium of art, “...crayon?”
will shoved his bedsheets into each corner of his mattress, barely looking up, “silence. try it out sometime."
the music paused shortly after.

Summary
Mike should never listen to Max. She's unreasonable. Crazy. And she goes out of her way to mess with him. This isn't new information to him. He's always known Max was like this. But when Mike gets riled up, he doesn't think straight and it puts him into some horrible and sometimes humiliating situations. This time, the mess he's in qualifies as a bit of both because somehow Mike's tongue is frozen to a pole. That's right. He's stuck.
It's bad enough having Max laughing at him, but he's wrong when he thinks things can't get any worse. Of course, they can. Because Will, the person Mike's secretly head over heels in love with, has to show up and see him like this too.

Mike was supposed to die. He was ready to die, but when do things ever go his way? Now, he supposes, he has a second chance to make things right. He can fix everything he messed up, apologize to Eleven, and be there for Will in whatever way he can.
It will take a lot to get there. Going from wanting to die to wanting to live gives him such extreme whiplash, it makes Mike's head hurt. Or maybe it's the damn bullet wound acting up again. Either way, he's done giving up.

Mike was missing again.
Not on purpose – at least, that’s what he would claim when someone inevitably tracked him down, because they would find him, even there, sitting high above Sattler Quarry with his legs dangling over the edge of the cliff he’d jumped from all those years ago. He’d woken up that morning with his bedsheets wrapped around his legs and his skin slick with sweat, the phantom-cold fingers of a nightmare still tangled in the folds of his brain leaving frostbite streaks in their wake as they reluctantly retreated to wait for the next time exhaustion won over his will, and he was on his bike pedaling away from the house as fast as his legs would let him with nothing but the clothes on his back when the sun was still only a thought hovering below the horizon.
It wasn’t like he enjoyed making them worry, but the idea of biking back home felt impossible, and he didn’t trust himself to stand and drag his feet away from the cliff’s edge rather than shuffling the mere few inches further to plummet once again, only this time with no one to magically save him partway down.
OR Will finds Mike on a cliff at the quarry, getting eaten alive by his guilt, and they talk.

Summary
“You know, Max said that you might be jealous or something. And I didn’t wanna believe her, because why on earth would you be, but now I’m thinking she’s not that far off. Are you jealous? Is that what this is?”
There’s something familiar in his tone, or in the quick escalation of a situation out of Mike’s control, that strikes him right in the chest. Will looks as furious as ever, and he’s thrown back to almost a decade ago, fighting in the humid summer rain and all the fights they had after. Will always had a way of laying things bare, and while he didn’t do it often, it never failed to act as a quick smack upside the head for Mike, because it was only Will who could find the right thread to pull and untangle things.
Of course he’s jealous. Will’s the only thing that’s ever made the world make any sense for Mike. How could he ever find a way to put the enormity of that into words?
or, Mike and Will get stuck in an elevator after a night out, right in the middle of their first big fight as roommates. They talk it out.

Will’s cheeks warmed, barely visible in the firelight, but Mike saw it. Saw the quick flicker in his expression, the sass giving way to something hungrier, more raw.

Will’s body is heavy as Mike drags him out of the quarry.
His lungs are burning and feel too small altogether, unable to hold any of the air he is trying to force into them. He can feel Will's hands slipping up his chest, the limp body sliding lower against his back. Mike hoists him up again, readjusting his grip. His nails dig into the other boys’ wrists a little tighter, breaking the soft and pale skin.
They are getting closer to the shore, Mike figures. His thoughts are sluggish, coming slow and hard to grasp. He only knows that he must get them out, the need to tend to Will growing, more urgent and all encompassing, entire body thrumming Will Will Will with every step he takes towards the bank.
The other boy is an increasingly grave weight on his back. Mike never wants to stop carrying it.
