Kirk glanced up at his friend. Spock seemed completely focused on reading the menu, so Kirk just kept looking.
In the past few months, he had been promoted to Captain, assigned command of the Enterprise for a five-year mission, and met the wonderful people who would become his crew in two months.
He almost expected to wake up-- there was no way that he could be that lucky.

Summary
Superman and Lois but with Jon and Kon.
Kon stared down at the door from his hiding spot behind the stair’s banister. He had been vigil the whole day, but now that Mrs. Kent had gone outside to greet their “guests” he was standing guard. He could hear voices outside— muffled through the door, just as they had been when he was in the tube. He felt suddenly cold, and had to resist the urge to retreat to the confinement of his given room—but it would be better to face what was coming head-on instead of hiding from it.

Clark stares at the 3D anatomy diagram of the throat, the auxiliary vocal cords layered underneath the human-like main set, as they slowly vibrate, and asks the Fortress in halting Kryptonian to play the associated audio.
Kryptonians purr. Clark purrs, and then doesn't. Until he needs to.

“It is a connection to family.” She says at some point. “The sight of a Vulcan woman’s hair unconstrained is reserved for mates and familiar relatives only. With the slight constant mental connection between all Vulcans, this is one way of maintaining privacy.”
Kirk smiles lightly. “I bet it must feel nice then, going to visit your family. You get to put your hair down, relax a bit.”
“Vulcans do not feel anything, Captain.” Spock replies.
He is wrong in other ways. She does not correct them.
OR:
Spock has spent her entire life with a physical reminder that she will never be accepted. The Enterprise changes some things.
