Summary
Stuck in an alt-world where he and Shane never hooked up as teenagers, Ilya is determined to get Shane back. Holy shit holy shit holy shit. This is everything I could ever want in a fic. The pining on every end was perfect. I love Ilya being THE yearner of all time. Also, I’ve been looking for a fic that tackled the whole “thinking you’re in a dream and trying to take advantage of it bc you don’t think you’ll ever get to be with this person irl” trope with Hollanov and this was just perfect. Def top 3 hollanov fics for me at least, and maybe top 10 ever???

This was so beautiful. The pining in the first chapter was visceral and so good. Everything that followed was genuinely a work of art. Hayden being the fantastic friend he is, Ilya being just so, so good, and Shane. Just Shane. I love him so much and this was such a crazy well written characterization and depiction. I really enjoyed reading the therapy sessions as well. (This is just straight up my comment but this is my personal reminder to reread when I can.)

“Into girls?” Ilya finishes for him.
“Something like that.”
“You denied it?”
“No, I— I told her. About me. About—us,” Shane’s head snaps up, a hand lifted in Ilya’s direction. “Not about us, us. That I’d been sleeping with someone. Another player. I didn’t tell her about you.”
OR: Shane comes out to Rose and runs toward the safest pair of arms he knows: Ilya’s.
