Summary
So that’s how Hayden found himself in Shane’s hospital room with Rozanov, JJ, and Shane’s parents, Yuna and David. Shane seemed to have managed to fall asleep despite all of the commotion, his eyes shut like he hadn’t a care in the world, like he didn’t have a concussion and broken collarbone and his archrival wasn’t currently in the room with him. Hayden was thankful for whatever painkillers they had him on to allow him to sleep so soundly.
Rozanov was glancing between the four of them, the doorway, and the single window in the room, his body language guarded. Maybe he was trying to figure out if he could jump out the window and survive a fall from the fourth floor, since they were actively blocking his only other exit out of the room.
“So, you are going to tell us, yes?” JJ said through gritted teeth. “What you were doing with Hollander.”

“Hayden,” Shane says, pointed; it’s almost his captain's voice, and Hayden blinks through the sudden rush of heat, flushing his cheeks and pooling low in his stomach.
“Shane,” Hayden responds, reaching down to rest a hand on his hip, fingers twitching at the feel of Shane’s skin, hot to the touch. “You’re ok, I got you.”
Shane bites his lip, looking up at Hayden through his lashes, seeming to settle at his words. Then there’s this. Hayden’s always been painfully aware of how pretty Shane is, has caught his gaze slipping on more than one occasion in the locker room, late nights during away games in their shared hotel room, to the bed across his. It’s never been more than that, of course; he always catches himself mid-stare, forced to wrestle his attraction with a guilty conscience. Tonight, under the guise of a drug-induced delirium and inherent drive to please, care for, he lets himself look.
Hayden joins Shane and the Metros at Ciel after their game, where someone spikes their drinks with rut-inducers. They’re sent home together, forced to ride it out. The aftermath leads to a conversation that ultimately brings them closer.

(P.S. - this is a fic mostly following Shayden’s QUEERPLATONIC RELATIONSHIP. I cannot stress this enough. There is no romance between Shane and Hayden, but they’re more than ‘just friends’.)
