"The summer of 1989 sucked. It hadn’t even started yet but I could already tell that it was going to. Summers always sucked in Derry, and they were especially bad in the Yee household. Somehow the magic combination of not being white in a farming town and having immigrant parents who saw free time as laziness meant that I, Lily Yee, was destined for a sucky summer.

“I am afraid,” Sarutobi’s voice is solemn but unwavering, “that any and all requests to take over Uzumaki Naruto’s care will be denied. No matter the circumstances or the source.”
There’s a pause, a heavy and cutting sort of silence.
“She is jinchūriki now,” Sarutobi murmurs, one part explanation and one part decree. Sorrowful but unyielding. “The girl’s life is no longer what it once would have been. There will be no adoptions, no fostering, no contact. Uzumaki Naruto is just another orphan and she will live as such. Now, dismissed.”
And that, much to Mikoto’s ire, seems to be that.

Harry and Draco refused to look up from the floor.
“Detentions have proven ineffective. House points are a joke to you. Letters to your respective families produce no lasting behavioral correction.” His voice sharpened. “It appears that I am left with no other disciplinary option than humiliation.”
Draco’s eyes flicked upward at that.
The silence stretched before he spoke again.
