Summary
Katniss wipes away her emerging tears with the back of her hand, still holding the dandelion with an ironclad grip. “ It’s okay.” She partly mumbles through her tears.
“ Do you want to be boyfriend and girlfriend?” The boy says so quickly that it comes out as a jumbled mess.
“ What?” Katniss is stunned.
“ My brother says that if you want someone to be your girlfriend, you have to give her something nice.” The boy explains, but it just makes Katniss even more confused.
“ You don’t have to.” The boy says shyly, his hands planted like an anchor on the wood that separates the tarmac from the sand, “ I understand you’re sad.” He continues.
Katniss looks at the boy’s warm cheeks and the dandelion in between her fingertips and feels a comforting heat in her chest. One she hadn’t felt since her dad died.
“ Sure.” She answers then. “ I’ll be your girlfriend.”
The boy’s eyes brightened even more than they turned to an almost white, and Katniss remembered thinking that there wasn’t a thing prettier.

“ Fuck you.” Ronan spits, and Parrish laughs; it rumbles the ground below them.
“ Do you believe in magic?” Ronan finds himself saying, and then he wakes up.
He wakes up to the sun shining through his window, not unlike the bright light from his dreams, and he turns over in his bed to catch the time from his alarm clock. It reads 10 am, and Ronan just then realizes that this meant that for the first time in months, he had slept through the whole night.

“We had a wedding this weekend, Miss Emma! With Uncle Shane,” Ruby Pike announces during Monday morning circle time. Miss Emma nods and tries to play it cool. It was exciting when the Pike twins mentioned Uncle Shane. Like he was just their dad’s totally normal BFF instead of the greatest hockey player Canada had seen in two decades. But she wasn’t going to fangirl in front of the kids.
“Well, it was a pretend wedding—” Ruby starts to clarify, but then Jade Pike interrupts her.
“Uncle Ilya said if you do the rings it’s a real wedding.”
Miss Emma’s eyebrows shoot up into her hairline. Uncle…Ilya? As in…
“Uncle Ilya said the rings and kiss made it real so we should tell Daddy to get him and Uncle Shane a very, VERY expensive gift,” Jade continues.
There’s that name again. Uncle Ilya. In the same breath as Uncle Shane. With the word kiss. That couldn’t be right…

To be clear, Ilya is grateful the rookies aren’t growing up the way he did in the NHL. Ilya took the hazing to the chin – humiliation rituals, beat downs, grueling practices to prove he could “hang” with the big guns on the team.
That being said, there’s still some part of Ilya that balks at the request by the gaggle of rookies to watch The Iron Giant, a veritable children’s movie at the team’s latest movie night.
