“Kory, it’s not gonna work get out of there, he’s got a cold gun!” Dick warns desperately, frantically through the comms, his heart beating so viciously against his ribcage he fears it might shatter.
Then the next part happens quickly, far too quickly.
One minute Kory’s standing there, tall and fierce like the warrior he knows her to be, her eyes turning a shamrock shade of green as the familiar sight of red flames begin to course under her skin. The next, before Dick has time to even open his mouth and usher another warning, she’s being hit by Bruce’s cold gun and is flying backwards, her body surrounded by a cloud of ice as she crashes down against the cold hard ground. Her bulletproof vest white and icy from the severe impact, her eyes open wide from shock, her body unmoving, frozen… Dead.
The sight sends icy chills through Dick’s bloodstream, makes the hairs on his arms stand up. “NOOOO!” He yells, rage and anguish in his heart. He needs to take it down. He has to get to her, he needs to get to her.

“Fitting room now. There’s lots to do.”

“That’s the problem. It’s why you’re wearing old jeans now! Please Daddy do it for us.” She opens her arms for Mar’i to come to her. She does and they both give Dick a matching sad face, like they planned it.
“Tamaranean superpowers from the both of you, not fair.” Moments later Dick comes to join them in a new outfit. A pair of rust colored khakis that fit him gloriously and a dark blue denim shirt, rolled at the sleeves, his top two buttons missing as usual. Kory bites her lip again and nods her head slowly.
“What do you think honey?”
“It’s nice. Maybe I did need some new pants.” He turns and checks himself out in the mirror, strutting comfortably around the room.
“Uh huh.”
“I like your new clothes Daddy.” Mar’i says with a mouth full of chips.
“Thanks Princess. Mommy knows a thing or two about fashion doesn’t she?”
“Yeah. But I like the pretty dresses you got for me.”

Kory turns around so that he can help her put the jacket on. He helps her into it and then he spots her necklaces as well.
“These are nice. Why don’t you put these on as well? Lift your hair up for me.”
She nods and does what he says. He moves right behind her and drapes each necklace around her neck, fastening it closed. Being this close, he can smell her. She still smells like his Kory. He lifts his gaze up and sees Rachel, Tim, and Bernard watching them with worry, sympathy, and hope in their eyes.
“Okay, there,” Dick says, voice a little rough. Kory turns around and looks at him in her own jacket and in those necklaces she loves so much.
“You look beautiful,” he tells her. “What do you think?”
He holds his breath in anticipation. Will this do it? Will this remind her of who she is? Wake her up?
