Lila hesitates an extra half second in the subway, and things go very differently.
Dave was just trying to pick up dinner ingredients on the way home from work. He had ground hamburger meat, onions and a jar of pickles in his basket and was headed to the bakery section for a bag of buns, when he turned a corner and nearly ran into the second-to-last person in the world that he would ever want to see.
Adrenaline spiking, he stepped smoothly backwards into the previous aisle, set his basket down on the floor, and left the grocery store immediately. He could get take-out tonight.
What the hell was Klaus Hargreeves doing here?!

Summary
In the summer of 2019, Dave Katz is working for a landscaping service. One of his coworkers tells him about a medium who claims to be able to speak to the dead. When Dave makes an impulsive decision to visit the medium, he can't possibly imagine the beautiful chaos he is about to invite into his life.
Klaus is sober and struggling. Some wild stuff happened in the spring, and now he's reunited with (most of) his siblings and trying to get a handle on his power. Charging people 50 bucks for an interview with a departed loved one seems like a good way to simultaneously face his demons and earn some grocery money.
Then a kind, strong, beautiful man named Dave walks in, hoping to talk to his dead boyfriend. One thing leads to another, and Klaus might find love for the very first time! — if he doesn't stay true to character and fuck it all up before it even gets started, that is.

Summary
After returning to 2019, Klaus finds himself adrift in the revised timeline. Ben is no longer by his side, Dave is approaching his 81st birthday in a nursing home and Klaus lives in a rat-infested one-bedroom apartment with Mrs Pagonis and her dogs. His brothers and sisters have all moved on with their lives, but it feels like there is no place for Klaus in this new altered reality.
He can’t help wondering what his life could have been if he’d never been adopted by Reginald Hargreeves. Then, one day, a shocking revelation leads him on a quest to seek out the one man who can provide the answer: his alternate self.
