Summary
Niccolò "Nico" di Angelo is a knight of the Silver Order, a valiant warrior who fights the monsters that emerge from the Shadow at the borders of the Realms. He is also a vampire, relying on blood donations from those he protects, taking as little as possible and always working alone.
However, after being slain defending a village by himself and needing to be brought back to unlife (again), he's been forbidden from venturing on his own. Though not many knights are keen to have a vampire as a companion, a strange series of targeted attacks against members of the Golden Order has Nico receiving a request for partnership from William "Will" Solace.
It should be simple. The golden knight needs a protector, the silver knight needs a companion.
But why does it feel like there's something missing? Why are the creatures of the Shadow, usually mindless and uncoordinated, going after golden knights? And why is Will being so secretive about his visit to King Kronos?

Excellent slow burn (the relationship build-up and stumbles along the way are superb). There's a very tense plot arc that really ramps up emotion and is so well executed. Incredibly compelling characterization.

Nico looked, and the visions hit him all at once.
One thousand different moments. Laughter, playful yelling, shouting, absolute chaos. The sound of sweet compliments and sultry whispers and bold declarations. The sight of that smile, Will’s smile, over and over, and then the feeling of his skin against Nico’s, the warmth of his breath, the touch of his fingers, the familiarity of it. The reassurance of his hand on Nico’s shoulder and the comfort of his hugs.
There was more, too. A sense of pride and accomplishment, the sound of cheering, the flickering sight of graduation caps and polaroids and love notes and rings and birthday presents and brief pecks and clothes abandoned on the floor. It was beautiful, every bit of it. It made Nico want to cry with how badly he wanted to feel it.
The visions faded, and Eros looked at Nico with a level of pity.
“I am sorry,” he said.
