For an articulate man, Roy Mustang suddenly struggled to find the correct words.
Every variation the Colonel concocted within his head sounded flimsy, harsh, or downright wrong. Unsettled and sick, the silence stretched between them for a handful of heart-clenching beats as suspicious golden eyes narrowed, continuing to sear into Roy’s soul. Realization reared its ugly head and delved a hand right into his chest, poisonous claws digging deep as it whispered odious remarks. He stared at the boy before him, feeling as if he was seeing him for the first time, an entire week’s worth of denial crumbling away.
This couldn’t be happening, but it was.
It was happening and he had been willfully blind to it like a pathetic coward. He’d chalked the flush of fever as something as simple as a cold. The same applied to the presumption of mood swings linked to age. Even the odd habits Roy had brushed off as quirks or stress...
Never once did Roy think something more malicious had been at play, until now.

Summary
Xiao and Barbatos love each other, that is a fact. It's been that way for thousands of years, and if all goes well, it'll be that way for thousands to come. But how did it start? Well, with a meeting of course.
Accompanying Lord Morax to meet the other Archons was an honor given to the best of Rex Lapis's Adepti, so of course Xiao accepts when he's chosen. He might regret it once there, just slightly, but he just needs to keep it together until the meeting ends, then he can go home and forget everything about the event. That is what he would have done, had he not been followed by a god with big white wings and a bigger heart.
A warrior with the duty to slaughter and a gentle bard-god don't seem to have a lot in common, but somehow, they both end up being just what the other needs.
Or, how Xiao and Venti found each other, starting from the very beginning.

Summary
While relaxing in the Zen room, Stanley has a bit of a realization.
He and the Narrator have never actually introduced themselves to one another before, despite all the time they’ve been in the Parable together. When he points this out, more questions come to his mind, and it leaves him questioning how much he honestly knows about his place in the Parable, and who the Narrator even is.
After all, if they’ve never introduced themselves, do they even really know each other?

"It was bound to happen eventually. The manhunt was starting to get pretty intense, and Stanley couldn't say he wasn't enjoying the chase. Still, he knew he needed to lose them soon, or else he’d get more attention than he wanted. The criminal was deep in thought as he jumped rooftop to rooftop before being thrown out of his thoughts. Literally. One moment he was jumping onto the roof of the furniture store, the next he was being catapulted into the side of a building.
Upon opening his eyes the criminal realized how deep in shit he truly was."

Stanley was having a rough Monday so far. His shipment got delayed five hours, a woman came in demanding an extravagant bouquet for her four-year-old daughter's recital, and then Bucket the cat had escaped the cat cafe next door again and had run into his shop during lunchtime, knocking over a bin of carnations in his haste to run from the barista chasing him. And now he had a mess to clean up thanks to Bucket.
And yet, he completely forgot how horrible of a day it had been the moment he saw a beautiful man with the most horrendous bright yellow tie Stanley had ever seen.Or
TSP flower shop AU because surprisingly no one's written one for this fandom yet??!?!
Currently on hiatus as I have fallen out of my TSP obsession :/ I'm determined not to give up on this fic, but it may honestly take months or years to finish without the hyperfixation and I'm so sorry!!

The spell seemed to break the Narrator out of his silence, though. “There it is again. The coughing. Totally unnatural in this setting, Stanley. There’s not even enough dust to irritate the average human lung – I needn’t check, I just know. Stanley, you can’t actually be...” Stanley heard a great deal of shuffling, like gathering papers and flipping through them furiously. The Narrator sounded odd. His voice was cresting near something, but Stanley couldn’t focus on it long enough to understand what.
“Sick? You can’t be sick, Stanley. It’s not possible. You can’t eat. You-you can’t excrete. You can’t get tired. This is how it’s been – how it’s always been.”

The Narrator and Stanley have a row. Emotions are high. Perhaps someone dies in the shuffle, but it's not as though that matters. That's the purpose of resets, after all. They erase all damage ever made.
Until they don't.
Stanley gets sick. This is not something the Narrator is equipped to handle.
