"...You knew."
'Huh?'
"In that final hallway, when Susie crushed the last part of the prophecy, you didn't seem surprised or frustrated, you didn't even seem bothered. You also seemed to know something was going to happen before Tenna was attacked. The Dark Fountain in the library didn't seem to surprise you, nor did the one at school." Kris frowned slightly, the pieces finally falling into place. "...You knew all this was going to happen, didn't you?"
For a moment, Soul stood perfectly still. Something very different from normal. Kris thought they'd caught it off guard, perhaps shocked by their question, perhaps shocked that they'd finally discovered one of its secrets. And then Soul hummed along with that unnatural chorus of voices.
'I thought it was taking you a while to realize.'
Kris blinked. Well, this wasn't the denial they'd been expecting.

Kris hummed softly in thought. Maybe it would be cool to learn how to play the guitar, Dess had tried to teach them before, but they were too focused on pranks and the piano to care. If the SOUL taught them, maybe then they could play the music she made and...
...Wait, what are they thinking? Have they actually considered this, even for a moment? No, they can't. It's bad enough that they consider the group their friends, they can't do the same with this again. The SOUL is just something useful, something that will help them achieve their goals. They can't consider it, even for a second, to be anything more than that.
They can't consider the SOUL as someone friendly.
(Or, the many moments of connection between Kris and the Red Soul through their shared love of music)

It is back in the box.
They don’t know why It keeps coming out of the box. Why It can’t just stay put when they want It to, and the thought is strong enough that they stumble their next song, a messy discordant note ringing out. From here they can’t hear Noelle and Susie. Can’t hear It, either. But they are sure It is somewhere near. They locked up the kitchen vent. So It can’t get out from there. But much as they wanted to when they were little they never were small enough to crawl around in the vents to find all the secret paths, and beside Aunt Carol always pulled them out whenever they tried to wriggle through. It got harder when they lost their lookout.
(Or: alone in the Holiday house waiting for the soul's next move, Kris reminiscences on their past, everything they have lost, and the few things they have left.)

Nosks are an intelligent species to a degree - as they're still rather feral in nature and incredibly territorial - and they have their own secret society in Deepnest. Given that they have proximity to the Pale King, it was inevitable for them to gain minds and sapience... but they still retain a hostile nature to them.
They morph and contort their bodies into makeshift lures, baiting unfortunate bugs into their traps and devouring them without a second thought. Before infection struck, they could even mimic voices.
Hunting is all that matters. Providing food is all that matters. Your territory is all that matters.One Nosk in particular, however, does not share in that sentiment.
While sure, attachments to others are unnecessary and strength is incredibly important in survival... why can't a Nosk be more than a ruthless animal? Why can't they gain honor outside of their kin? Why can't everyone know one Nosk's name?
Why can't a Nosk be a knight?Better yet... a knight of great renown?

Summary
Amon's mind has been swirling with questions he'd never once thought of after his encounter with Eyepatch. He has no one to talk to or explore them with, so instead they fester inside his mind alongside his grief over his mentor. When he rescues a university student from a ghoul attack, he finds an unlikely friendship with them as they discuss their differing ideas on the personhood of ghouls. Even though it isn't Eyepatch and Amon outwardly argues that ghouls are nothing more than monsters, he finds himself listening to the naïve student as they answer Amon's burning questions one by one.
Kaneki knows how stupid it is to form a friendship with a dove, much less have talks over coffee about his own right to live and exist, but he still finds himself looking forward to their conversations. Amon didn't recognize him without the mask, and while the investigator would never listen to a ghoul, the radical ideas of a 'human' university student could worm their way inside the investigator's head instead. Maybe it would all come crashing down when Kaneki would inevitably be found out, maybe he wasn't capable of making enough of a difference to change their world, but he had to try. It was something only he could do.
