"Exactly! You get it, Hollander," Ilya says, using the excuse to throw an arm around Shane's shoulders. "We must stage intervention. Cannot let nice young man be cradle-snatched."

Summary
After inadvertantly bearing witness to a dick pic from "Lily", Hayden goes so hard as an ally that he circles right back around to homophobia.
Now that Hayden Pike — pure of heart, dumb of ass — has that missing piece, everything makes sense. Of course Shane's cagey about his trans girlfriend. Hayden is so stupid.

“It needs to be airtight,” said Shane, folding his laptop and laying it on the bedside table. “It can’t be—we can’t just put out a statement, ‘Oh, we’re friends now.’ We need to be seen together. In public. Becoming friends.” He took off his glasses, set them on the laptop.
“Yes, I know,” said Ilya. “We decided. I will approach you.”
(Set at some point post-Season 1. Shane and Ilya need to establish the start of their "friendship" in the public eye. Naturally, this becomes seeing how hard they can covertly flirt with each other. Naturally, that becomes sexual roleplaying as a version of themselves that didn't have an almost decade-long situationship.)

Summary
Language was mistake.
Honeybees communicate by dancing. Works for them, lets them figure out where good flowers are. Ants do it with smells, little chemical trails on the ground to get back to food source. There’s a monkey that screams different for leopards than eagles – different sound for different predator.
People, though. People have too many words, too many languages, and Ilya is very, very tired.
