Or, Dr Mensah observations of the little signs that SecUnit is comfortable travelling with Perihelion. There is joy in watching a friend grow - and a little sadness too, when they do so away from you.

Summary
On an otherwise boring mission, Murderbot propositions ART's ops drone, and inadvertently stumbles into a bramble thicket of secrets that ART has been keeping from it.

Of course I want to, ART-drone said with sudden vehemence, raw and almost despairing. You wanted me, not just Perihelion or the sex drone. How was I ever going to say no to that? But I’m just not built for this. I don’t have the resilience required. I don’t think there’s any point to discussing it further.

Summary
I had been incredibly skeptical when Ratthi had sent me ‘Midnight Eclipse.’ I knew what fanfiction was, I had seen it in the more niche entertainment feeds before. Never specifically for Sanctuary Moon, but I'd assumed it existed. That didn't mean I had any actual interest in it, though. When I had first looked at them, I hadn't liked them. The quality varied too much and a lot of them weren't finished, or were really short, or really out of character. And I hated that. I really really hated that.
This one was different.

Summary
It seems like there should be a very neat line, at least for humans, between dead and not dead, but I’ve seen enough messy half-alive humans to know that there is no such clear distinction. I’ve seen bodies that were still breathing despite missing part of their heads, bodies that weren’t breathing despite their owners being fully conscious. I wouldn’t call either option alive. I wouldn’t call either option dead, either.
For a machine intelligence, the border is even blurrier. It's hard to say which side of it I will stand on when they're through with me.

Summary
The mission fails catastrophically. So does SecUnit. When it comes back online without any functional sensory inputs, it believes that it's still trapped on the surface of the cold, desolate planet, that its humans are all dead, and that nobody will ever find it. Luckily, it's wrong.

Summary
As a murderbot I'm used to dealing with problems that can be solved by hacking or fighting. Other problems, I'm not so good with. So when PSUMNT decided not to renew my employment contract, that was— I didn't want to think about it. I just didn't want to leave. So when ART first proposed that it just hide me somewhere aboard it, I jumped in without thinking. That might have been a mistake.

It is with great relief that I exit the wormhole into the home space of the Pan System Alliance. Familiar neutrinos brush against my hull, lighting up my sensor array in a comforting way. I immediately receive three pings from members of my cohort who are in range. I return the pings merely to be polite, but ignore any further initiation of conversation. I am really not in the mood to be interrogated about my recent mishap.

My SecUnit is pacing in the navigation deck. I'm about to ping it when .03 seconds after coming online, I notice something has partitioned off part of my system.
There is an unknown virus in my system.
I attempt to purge it from the system at the same time I hear SecUnit over the feed.
"Do not panic and do not do anything rash until you know what's happening. We're all safe and accounted for."

Summary
I have tried to read this as a friendship story, embedded in Murderbot's usual adventure. But, no matter how I tried, it actually, really, comes across VERY special. It is probably different from romantic relationships between humans. What I have come to learn as queer-platonic relationship.
But let's face it, Martha Wells said in an interview that "ART is probably the love of Murderbot's life.", and in another short fiction where Murderbot and ART are being interviewed, ART answers "Yes, but don't tell anyone." to a question by Goblin, age 8, "Do you love Murderbot?"
So love is there - whatever the nature is
