“The scream when they slapped the cold iron on his wrists still echoed in Gwaine's ears. Then everything had gone sideways. They weren’t helpless without Merlin, not anymore, but it should be pointed out that Merlin was the best at taking on magical threats. The knights tried their best but with Merlin falling to whatever spell they placed on him it didn't take long for the rest to start dropping like flies.”

Summary
The first half of the first tournament of magic in Camelot in 25 years was not nearly as interesting as Arthur had hoped.
Thus far, it hadn’t been all that different from the ones he had fought in with his knights, though with more supernatural throwing, shoving, and tripping. Arthur suppressed a pout.
He didn’t even get to participate in this tournament, and there were few things he loathed more than sitting by and watching a fight.
Things would probably get more interesting once Merlin entered the fray—the man brought trouble like carcasses attracted flies—and he would be competing with Albion’s other court sorcerers. Merlin made him feel a great many things, but he strongly doubted boredom would ever be one of them.

Arthur just shook his head, dropping his hands to his side as he fixed Merlin with a tired look. “I don’t know, Merlin. What is wrong?”
“I’m…” Merlin’s brows furrowed together in confusion. He tilted his head to the side a fraction. “I’m not following.”
OR
Merlin has been working himself into the dirt, to the point where he is hardly sleeping, and Arthur has taken notice.
