Summary
“Kai, I’m fine, seriously,” she swears, making an effort to keep her tone steady. “I can work tomorrow, I just need—”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He’s clenching his fists around the dangerous thermometer, looking halfway like he wants to punch something and halfway like he just wants to go to sleep again and cry. It’s a look she’s used to seeing on her brother and in the mirror. “Why did you just let me send you to—If I get sick, what happens then, huh? Who takes care of you?”
Or: Whenever Nya finds herself in the line of danger (which is more often she'd like, in a world where ghosts and skeletons can come knocking at your door whenever they please and take your family away from you), for some reason, it never seems to hurt her alone. For some reason, there seem to be people who just can't bear the thought of seeing her in pain.
This is... less ideal than one would think.

Summary
“She didn’t tell me she was sending the hot nurse.” His voice is low, raspy in a way Robert is sure is supposed to be seductive but sounds a little more like he swallowed sandpaper. He grins up crookedly, eyes shamelessly dragging over the column of Robert’s throat. “Not that I’m complaining.”
Robert blinks. Once. Twice.
He… he wasn’t expecting that.
Or,
Flambae is concussed and thinks Robert’s his boyfriend. Shenanigans ensue.

Summary
“Tell me. Robert Robertson the Third. Mecha Man. Hero.” There’s something soft in the thing’s voice. Almost reverent. “What do you want?”
His body wants to shut down. His mind wishes for oblivion. The answer is obvious.
“Put me…back into…the fight.” He rasps.
“Very well,” he can hear it smiling, “let’s get to work.”
Or, in simpler terms…let’s do it all over again.

Summary
Robert Robertson III spent seven years believing the Mecha Man suit was the only extraordinary thing about him-the tech, the mission, the legacy, the perfect hero, the perfect soldier, the perfect legacy bearer for a family that never lived past forty. He patrolled the streets of Los Angeles until his bones ached and his bank account died, clinging to a hero name that cost him everything except the stray dog who refused to leave him. But the cold in his veins was never normal. The frost on his glass, the way he never felt heat, the way fire bent strangely around him. They were inheritance. Old inheritance.
And the first person to recognize what he is? - Flambae. A pyrokinetic disaster with a wicked grin, a criminal record, and enough fire to melt steel, or warm someone who can’t feel heat at all.
Robert isn’t looking for a partner. He isn’t looking for a destiny. He definitely isn’t looking for a fire-powered menace who thinks his existential crisis is “kinda cute.” But flame seeks cold, cold seeks flame, and sometimes the person who burns the world down is the only one who can thaw what’s frozen inside you.

Supernatural creatures keep trying to lure away Robert because he’s like catnip to them, which is funny until it’s not. What does Malevola have to do to keep others from snatching away their dispatcher?
Or,
Kinda 5 times someone tried to steal Robert, and one time they used that to their advantage (and then still had to prevent someone from taking him home) -

Summary
Early into Robert's time as a dispatcher, Flambae is hit by a temporary form of love magic that highjacks his senses and leaves him infatuated with the first person he interacts with. To Robert's terrible misfortune, that happens to be him. Now, he not only has to learn how to handle a supremely compromised Flambae, but survive the onslaught of ridicule from the rest of his team of ex-villains.
Robert has been through all sorts of bullshit before, but even this is new to him. Hopefully, he can weather the storm and get the old, bitchy Flambae back before the HR violations stack so high, they'll kill him if (or when) they come crashing down.

Summary
“Hey, fire guy!” someone called.
Shit, was he actually on fire? Chad checked his shoulders and forearms. There were wisps of smoke but no fire. He hadn’t done anything wrong. A deep scowl formed, and Chad turned to direct it at whoever called.
It was a hero who looked vaguely familiar, running towards him. He wore a dark blue suit with yellow stripes and a yellow ‘M’ on white armour.
“You’re a hero, right?” he called as he continued to close the distance. He was almost at Chad now.
“Uh,” started Chad.
“I need your help, let’s go!” the hero’s tone was confident and authoritative as he ran right past Chad, waving for him to follow.
Or
Some time travel to spice things up.

Summary
After a dispatcher working out of DTLA is brutally murdered by one of the supers on her team, SDN is desperate to fill the position. Turns out, Robert’s the perfect guy for the job.
He’s practically a miracle worker, after all. The Phoenix program’s a rousing success, Shroud’s back behind bars, the Z-Team’s at the top of Torrance’s leaderboard… and with the director of the SDN offering him the promotion in person, how could he say no?
So, he agrees on one condition: if he’s moving up, the Z-Team’s moving up, too.
They’re in the big leagues now. Designer costumes, a broader beat, photoshoots, galas, merch… sure, a few of the SDN’s golden boys have gone rogue and the director’s suddenly desperate to get Robert —specifically Robert— back in the field, but who’s got time to worry about that when L.A.’s favorite reformed villains are making their encore debut?
[If you didn’t get enough Dispatch while playing Dispatch, I wrote this for you! This fic builds on the world and puts our favorite found-family under a media microscope while a slow-burn murder mystery thrums in the background. Some minor horror/thriller elements, mostly through Robert’s POV. Includes artwork.]

Summary
The man was in a suit that almost reminded Robert of something from Cirque du Soleil, all skin-tight, shimmering fabric with bursts of red and orange and a V-neck that showed a lot more than neck. The wrap-around sunglasses didn’t even look that ridiculous.
Infuriatingly, he managed to be beautiful, like a Monet in an Ikea frame is beautiful. He had changed very little in the years since Robert first encountered him, at least physically. Robert couldn’t say the same.

Summary
Robert is keeping two secrets from his team.
1. He actually enjoys their company (mostly).
2. He doesn't need the subtitles to understand the K-Drama they just forced him to watch.
A two-part story about a heritage erased, a team that misses the obvious, and the inevitable moment the truth comes out.
——————
A/N: This is based on the fact from one of the developers that Robert was originally intended to be half-Korean in early development, but the concept got scrapped because of similarities to Mark Grayson from Invincible. We were ROBBED.

Summary
Robert isn't Mecha Man. He's just Robert, a regular civilian in desperate need of a job, who takes a job in desperate need of someone to hold out for longer than a week (which would be a new record for the team, at this rate).
No suit.
No special training in how to take hits.
(Takes place immediately following the bar fight.)

Summary
Robert climbs out of the smoldering wreckage of his father’s legacy only to find that he's no longer needed. Mecha Man is, of course. But Robert Robertson? Ha. No.
So he tries to piece his life back together, however hopeless a cause it may be. But then it's time to announce his--hm, not retirement. Convalescence? Close enough--and it goes just a little too well. Chase never calls in the favor with Blazer so Robert never gets the job at SDN. Purposeless, he lets himself backslide. Forces himself to focus on the suit and only the suit because it's the only way he'll ever let himself live again (as if Mecha Man was much of a life beforehand).
Then a couple assholes bust down his door because the neighbors called for a wellness check and now Robert's plans of dying in a landslide of pizza boxes will have to be put on pause.
TLDR: Robert and Z-Team fix each other. They fuck up a lot along the way.
