If Minho was born a few decades earlier when it was the norm to encounter mers in the coves and on the beaches of his coastal port town, he may possibly be fascinated by them. He may have even been adventurous enough to travel to the region that is practically named after the sea creatures. But, as per usual, humankind’s history of entitlement and gorging on something that they have no right to gorge on, the relationship between the two species has tilted, to say the least.
You’d really think that after caging orcas for commercial and performance value for centuries that humans would have learnt a few necessary things, such as – do not take life from the ocean and do not expect it to be fucking happy about it.

Miya Atsumu can see ghosts. It’s a Gift not many possess, but most know about.
A scary Gift.
A powerful Gift.
Of course, Atsumu didn’t see it that way. To him it was just… normal. He’d grown up with the ability to see a soul how they were as they died - natural deaths, violent deaths, tragic deaths - he’d seen them all.
Then there were Atsumu's least favorite type of ghosts: hanahaki victims. There was always lots of violent, soundless hacking to expel phantom petals with those, lips blue and eyes bloodshot as they choked on their love for all eternity. Atsumu had long ago sworn off love as a result, the risk too great. To him falling in love was one of the cruelest fates one could meet.
That just makes it all the more unfortunate, then, when he does fall in love.
And with a ghost, no less.
