Summary
Niè Huáisāng non era felice che Jīn e Jiāng in quel momento fossero riunite sotto un'unica guida; ma sapeva che ciò sarebbe cambiato in futuro. Jīn Líng avrebbe presto raccolto la sua eredità e i Jīn sarebbero tornati lentamente all'autonomia; ma se Jiāng Chéng pensava che Jīn Líng un giorno avrebbe guidato entrambi le shì, si sbagliava di grosso. La storia insegnava una lezione diversa. Se fosse morto senza figli, non ci sarebbero state più due shì. Dopo la sua morte, ci sarebbero stati solo tumulti e sconvolgimenti; I discepoli Jiāng avrebbero cercato di prendere il sopravvento, e possibilmente far risorgere un ménpài dalle ceneri della Jiāng shì; come al solito, sarebbero seguite morte e distruzione, e alla fine sarebbero rimasti solo i Jīn. Una Jīn Shì, ancora una volta, troppo grande per la serenità dei Niè. Niè Huáisāng aveva un problema di non facile soluzione: trovare a Jiāng Chéng una moglie adatta.

Tutto quello che avreste sempre voluto sapere su Zǐdiàn ma non avete mai osato chiedere.
La mia traduzione del primo capitolo (in realtà può stare da solo) di un sequel (novel canon) Cheng/Qing che ho scritto in Inglese (https://ao3-mirror.cc/works/34595632).
In realtà la mancanza del neutro in Italiano è una sciagura. In inglese il pronome per Zǐdiàn è it. Lasciando spazio ad un gioco di ambivalenze che diventa intraducibile. Purtroppo il determinismo di genere è insuperabile. Il cervello codifica automaticamente come maschio il maschile, e come femmina il femminile. Il neutro in italiano usa la forma maschile, ma alla fine ho preferito il femminile (she for he): tutto sommato Zǐdiàn è una frusta, che in Italiano è femminile come lo è la nave.

Summary
Nie Huaisang returns home from Cloud Recesses to find a party from Yunmeng Jiang already there and in talks with Nie Mingjue to form an alliance that would be cemented by his marriage to Jiang Yanli. The Alliance would give them the edge they all need over the Wen, and it's something he can't refuse outright. He plans to find a way out of the arrangement - his heart already belongs to another, loyal and dutiful Nie Zonghui whom he has loved in the shadows for fear of how their relationship might be received.
