“You’re laughing. You’re actually—” Dick inhaled and exhaled deeply. “Y’know what? You’re a lost cause and I will not fall to your ragebait. I’m not even going to bother.”
“Dickie,” Tim said.
“No.” Dick made a face at Tim before looking at Bruce. “I officially give up. He’s your responsibility now.”
“Dick,” Tim tried again.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Bruce said to Dick. “I already talked with him.”
“Did you?” Dick feigned surprise, still ignoring Tim. “Wow. And here I thought you were incapable of forming a sensitive thought.”
It was Bruce’s turn to make a face.
OR
Tim was famously known for preferring to take matters into his own hands.

Summary
Have you ever seen someone outside the place you normally know them and just… not recognised them? Like spotting a teacher in the supermarket, or your doctor out walking their dog, and your brain takes a second to catch up? Psychologists even have a name for it; the “butcher-on-the-bus” effect. Out of context, even the people closest to us can look like strangers. And sometimes, it’s not their face that brings them back to you at all, but their voice, their laugh, or the way they still crack a joke when they really shouldn’t.
When you hear a deep rumbling voice emanating from something that seems more shadow than man you don’t question who is speaking. That’s obviously Batman.

Summary
Bruce does not love Timothy Drake. There are times when it’s much harder to remind himself of that: that no matter how many small and large acts of kindness the 11-year-old performs for no reason other than he’s a kind young man, Bruce does not love him.
Sometimes, it’s a little easier to remember that. Such as now, as his groggy, mildly encrusted eyes crack open to the notification that Tim has input his specific security code to enter the manor through the side door, uninvited. Not that coming over uninvited is itself an offense. Bruce (and more forcefully, Alfred) had let him know he is welcome whenever he wants for whatever reason (or lack thereof entirely). However, seeing that it is 2:42 A.M. during the middle of a hailstorm on a Saturday morning, which would be annoying on any weekend anyhow but quickly escalates Tim’s behavior from quirky to irresponsible considering it is the Saturday of Tim’s placement exam into Gotham Academy, Bruce allowed himself a level of indignation.
In which Tim brings a wagon full of ingredients to Wayne Manor in the middle of the night/morning to cook breakfast and make a birthday cake for one Alfred Pennyworth

Summary
Dick looks terribly sad when he looks at Tim. Jason looks at Tim with anger and hatred. Things around Wayne Manor are tense and unstable. Tim figures, so long as he's around, neither Dick nor Jason will ever be happy, which means that Bruce will never be happy.
There's one way to fix that: run away from home, sending himself into Rejection and break the family bond he has with Bruce, thereby destroying his ability to form either family and romantic bonds, and making it so his scent is so nauseating to Bruce that Bruce won't try to keep Tim around out of a misguided sense of right and wrong.
Clearly this is the right choice for Tim to make.
Except that Jason disagrees when he finds out, and kidnaps Tim so he and Dick can take care of their little brother.
(Alternatively: I make up new A/B/O mechanics as an excuse for Batboy angst and comfort.)

In front of him were all six of his kids. For some inextricable reason, they'd lined themselves up in height order, and it made Bruce feel a little like he were in The Sound of Music. It was rare to see them all together at once, their busy lives taking them all over the city or even further, like Bludhaven or New York, but of course they would want to provide a united front now.
No one spoke, and Bruce sighed. “I'll take that as a 'yes', then,” he said, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Who wants to volunteer? Alfred has promised a thirty-two percent decrease in your chores for the next two weeks, and approximately ten percent more of whatever baked delicacy you prefer.”
