Summary
In the quiet of the kitchen, Will has no trouble hearing the unmistakable sound of Hannibal's sharp intake of breath. He looks up at him and sees the eyes of a predator. His pupils are wide and his mouth is slightly agape, showing the barest of teeth.
Will’s nervous system is hit with the fight or flight signal, the one that kept his ancestors alive for millions of years, and he chooses to ignore it. Instead, Will wants to rub the pad of his thumb against Hannibal’s teeth to test their sharpness.
Or, the naka-choko fix-it in which Will sides with Hannibal and actually kills Freddie Lounds.

It’s given them some degree of freedom—enough to move around their tiny town without looking over their shoulders, enough to be friendly with their neighbors. Enough for Will to tentatively reach out to his father with a burner phone and the number for a landline he’s sure has been disconnected, the one he knows by heart.

Immediately, the small bit of tension he'd been carrying in his neck began to unwind. He sighed into the plushie's shoulder, nosing at the collar of the shirt, and allowed his weight to fall upon it completely. It was propped up against the wall, making it easier to recline against. A smile crept across his face without his intention, and he knew immediately that he wouldn't be returning the bear or the shirt, not for a few more days at least.
His eyes had just begun to flutter shut when he heard the distinct sound of a closing door and expensive shoes tapping against the wooden flooring. The walls were thin, he heard most noises that came from the apartment adjacent to his.
