Richie can’t keep a secret.
It’s big. It must be. Something big enough that he’s keeping it from Stan. Stan is a bit annoyed by the secrecy of it all. Richie is a blabbermouth, but the one time Stan is actually curious, the boy does not speak on it. Not even to him—his best friend.
Stan has a few guesses. A suspicion he can’t voice out loud. An idea of what could be happening with Richie. But if he’s wrong—it’s a type of hurt Richie won’t be able to come back from because it came from Stan.

Something about that last part seemed wrong.
Escaping from being captured, Jamie is crawling through the air vents of a base when he overhears the Doctor being forced to make an impossible decision.

“O-kay,” she says, drawing out the word and shaking her head. “It doesn’t seem very…you, does it?”
If the Doctor was brave, he’d admit that he really, truly, does not know. He doesn’t know himself at all, and he’s always had a tenuous grasp on a sense of self but this is something different. It’s something that hurts, because there’s no one left to remind him who he was, who he is, who he could be.
But he’s not brave, never in this, so he strides into the bedroom with a confidence he doesn’t feel and sits on the bed. He almost falls off as it proves to be much bouncier than he expected, but it’s alright, because Rose didn’t believe him anyway.
Rose can't sleep, and the Doctor doesn't even try anymore. It's new, this light of hope between them. He wonders how long it'll be before it all crashes down around them.

They’ve never understood why I have goals and why I’m constantly working hard for them. But they’ve never had to work hard for anything before; it’s always come naturally to them.”
