Since the accident, Vi had taken to treating Jinx like she was webbed glass about to shatter at any moment. Jinx could get the sentiment, sure, but it was more frustrating than comforting. It made Jinx feel small when Vi looked at her with worry when she thought Jinx wasn’t looking. Ever since Isha, Jinx felt like everyone treated her differently.
The muscle under her left eye twitched, head jerking away from the voice that crept up behind her. During Isha, the voices had dulled to mild whispers at most, but they returned almost as quickly as Isha was gone. She quickened her pace, a shiver creeping down her spine as she pulled her scarf up to cover her nose. She shoved her ungloved hands in her pockets, her fingers finding the sharp edges of some piece of plastic–likely a piece of some trinket. She dug her fingers into the corners. The sharp pain of it pulled her mind out of whatever haze it was in, and she continued her walk home.
