Summary
Someone shared a snippet from the Oxford Mail newspaper in a Good Omens group yesterday. Oxfordshire is where the fictional village of Tadfield is located. We don't have large snakes in the UK (we have little grass snakes, and also pretty small adders, our only venomous snake, but nothing larger). So I wrote a short silly thing to go with the article.

Summary
There's a certain vague vegetable intelligence about plants. Nothing that can be perceived by human eyes or ears, of course; nothing that fully qualifies as sentience, not quite.
By comparison, the plants in Crowley's flat were the equivalent of a philosophers' guild. A terrified one.

I’ll tell you what went wrong. You’ve been visited by some of the worst servants of Hell. They are legion, and if you don’t act fast, they’re going to come for EVERY PLANT YOU HAVE. You have spider mites, and these tiny hellpests are sucking the literal life out of your plants, one after another after another.
The major problem with spider mites is that they’re impervious to traditional demonic attacks. They are creatures of drought and heat, residents of Dis, and thus, Hellfire does nothing to eradicate them. In fact, it fucking makes them stronger.
(Probably. I don’t know. I burnt a whole wall down the last time I had to deal with them, but they still fucking came for my arrowhead vines anyway.)

Many people, seeing Crowley for the first time, from afar, if they were lucky, formed three impressions.
First, he was obviously wealthy. There was a certain way he held himself, a certain glow that not really stated outright, more like hinted, that he did have a price. Only, it was a few dozen zeroes too long for anyone to be able to afford it.
Second, he was dangerous. The way he moved, like a snake big enough to devour you whole, like a tiger, who had chosen the world as his prey. Like he could have you killed with a twitch of his finger, and right now, right now he was feeling twitchy.
And finally, Crowley was, well, he was alone. No one even had proof there was a Crowley family, but it was the only way it made sense. It couldn't very well be the result of a single man's work, could it?
John, the head of the second most powerful mafia family in London was about to find out how misconstrued some of these notions were.

“Oh!” Aziraphale startles. “Well—such a question. It’s not as though either of us has engaged in so much as fisticuffs in ages, and one does need to keep up practice with these sorts of things.” His fretting dies abruptly when Crowley cuts over him clearly, baldly: “Aziraphale.”
Aziraphale’s mouth clicks shut, and he goes so still that the group is forcibly reminded that ethereal beings don’t technically need to breathe, have a heartbeat, or even metabolize energy to exist. Beside him, Crowley’s stiffened up and his lips pull back from his teeth in a toe-curling wince.

Elena was on her way home from class when she happened to turn her head at just the right moment and saw it through the window of the bookshop.
It being a large, black snake curled up on a chair in the last patches of quickly fading sunlight.
Elena jerked to a stop with a gasp, right in the middle of the pavement. She all but pressed her face to the window, studying the snake curiously. It was quite large, even coiled as it was in its big leather armchair, and although its golden eyes appeared to be open, she could tell that it was probably snoozing. “What a beautiful creature,” Elena said to herself in a hushed, awed voice, and then made the snap decision to go inside the shop for another look.
