He saw movement out of the corner of his eye and located Akira coming out of the back- or, at least, the person he intellectually understood to be Akira.
What he saw was a young woman with long tied-up hair wearing a black tank top, fishnet shirt and a short pleated skirt.
She noticed him at the same time he saw her, and her expression brightened. She gave him a quick wave and went back to fidgeting with whatever it was she was doing.

“It’s fine.” Maki considers her own tepid acceptance of the situation, and then adds, “You don’t have to apologise. Things happen.” That’s something that Kaede would say, isn’t it? Or maybe she’d say something more compassionate, more catered to Tenko, like, you can’t help how you feel, you shouldn’t hold back when you feel terrible. It’s too corny for Maki to bring herself to say out loud, even now after she’s gone through and changed so much.
At the very least, Tenko doesn’t seem to be holding out for a platitude like that. She just nods again. “Tenko would talk about it, um, she should talk about it, but it’s nothing, um, new.” She sniffles, and her fingers begin tracing shapes along Maki’s forearms. Accordingly, Maki halts her thumbs, lets Tenko do her thing without interruption. She hopes it’s a tactile comfort, and not something that Tenko will just wind herself up even more doing. “And I don’t—I mean, Tenko does not want to. Talk about it.”
“You don’t have to.”
“But I should,” Tenko responds, almost insistently, her tongue poking out from between her teeth. “Right?”
