Ilya falters, just for a second. “Problem, Hollander?”
“No!” Shane is crossing the room in a second and crawling into bed. (He’s still wearing his pants; he never wears his outside clothes in bed.) Ilya is good at hiding his hurt from Shane, but he’s ‘Hollander’ again, he’s not Shane, he’s not baby, he’s not moya lyubov. He’s on his knees between Ilya’s legs. From here, he can hear everything: the wet sounds of Ilya’s fingers sliding in and out, the rustle of the sheets. His entrance is puffy and swollen, slick with lube. There’s a spot on Shane’s comforter, like Ilya was overzealous with the lube, like he wasn’t sure how much to use on himself.Series

Maybe Ilya wants someone who will let him take charge. Shane isn’t that kind of person; he desperately clings to control with everything he has. He folds his clothes before sex and cleans his windows after Ilya fucks him against them. He controls his food portions, nutrition, his training schedule, image, and public appearances. He’s competitive. He would never roll over and take anything he didn’t want to.
The thought makes his stomach clench. The one place he doesn’t cling desperately to control is in the bedroom. He lets himself be molded, shaped, and coaxed into anything Ilya wants when they fuck. Giving up that control, is that all that Ilya likes about him?Or: Shane starts making a different kind of plan after the conversation where Ilya says he could marry Svetlana.

When Shane starts to sit up, Ilya lowers his legs onto the mattress and slinks up beside him. He hasn't taken off his sneakers yet. “I'm not gonna kill you, or anything, if you're worried.”
“Comforting,” Ilya rumbles.

Despite the teasing lilt, a soft, rolling r in strong, Shane can tell that Rozanov is being sincere. Shane blinks down at him, and is reminded of what this is. Of why, in every way, they are implausible.
