A cry in the wilderness has said that they want their writing to be like escapism but with jagged edges his audience could get caught on as they read his writing. (I am paraphrasing, I don't remembet quite how he said it.) This fic was and is like that for me. I kept remembering my reality, and it sucked. It also made me feel safe in a particular way. I have'nt before.
This is special to me. I will need to reread. I am grateful for this writing. -

Silco’s face is devoid of any expression. “So. You want money.”
Left with crippling debt and a failing business, Vander's only option to save the Last Drop is to ask Silco for a loan. Over the span of a few weeks, Vander's debt is cleared, the bar has gotten a makeover, Silco's henchmen have started using it as their hangout, and throughout it all, Silco is refusing to be paid back.

I promise I mean no disrespect when I say this: Sometimes I would be reading this fic and replace Silco and Vander with Eezma and Kronk (from The Emperor's New Groove) respectively. It was great.
Ah, Vander thinks. There it is. (Yes! Kronk would say this to himself as an experienced bodyguard/assistant of Yzma.)
He doesn’t need to look over to know that Yzma is subtly gesturing at him to wait. 20 years have passed, and still this feels exactly the same: Yzma signalling him to wait, just wait a little while longer, before she gives him permission to bash someone’s head in. (Yes! Yes! That’s exactly what Kronk would do! The O.G. himbo…)
Yzma’s smile is nothing but pleasant. “Is that so?” (Yesssszz I can just ImAgine Yzma purring this line out.)
“This isn’t personal,” the man says. “Just business.” He pauses, then throws his head back and laughs. “I’ve just realised that there’s no point in lying to you anymore. Fuck this, you know what? It’s definitely personal. You’re a fucking arsehole, and you’ve bled me dry for years. I usually find cold-blooded murder a bit distasteful, but I guarantee that I’ll enjoy killing you.” (It’s giving basic bitch cartoon villain + monologue! Perfect for Yzma and Kronk!)
This time, Kronk does glance over, and sees what he expected: Yzma tapping her hand on the desk. (With her fancy nails!) Wait. “I can’t say that I don’t appreciate the honesty, Bran. But I am wondering why you’d think I’m such an easy man to kill.”
Bran doesn’t bother hiding the fact that he’s openly staring at Vander. “I know you,” he says bluntly. He’s no longer talking to Silco. “You’re the Hound.”
“Used to be.” Vander shrugs, the picture of causality. “Now I mostly wait tables. I suppose you could say I’ve retired.” (Didn’t Kronk eventually go on to work at a restaurant and help raise children?! I have connected the dots!? Also this sounds like something Kronk would say.)Wooooooooooooʻoooo This was nice Thank you for writing this!

It is an incredibly frustrating thing, to have the knowledge of how to do something, without the practical skill needed to do so.
Viktor had tried several iterations of a new brace for his leg with what he had at his disposal, but all of them lacked the strength for true support, let alone longevity. This one had outlasted all the others at least, but had given out at what had to be the most inconvenient moment possible.
At least it is still mostly holding his weight, and he takes care to shift his cane tight to his hip to provide as much help as possible after he feels the give and bend of one of the bars. “Shit.”
Or: Viktor accidentally falls into a partnership with a blacksmith, after his leg brace breaks in the middle of the city.
