Summary
Evan Buckley starts writing to himself before he knows why.
At first, the letters are small. Apologies. Explanations. Rules for how to be good, how to be quiet, how to make things easier for everyone else. As he grows, the letters change — darker, flatter, more tired — following him through years of numb survival, reckless choices, and a life lived on the edge of disappearing.
The timeline stretches from childhood to adulthood, from a house that never quite wanted him to a firehouse that teaches him what staying might mean. And somewhere along the way, Buck has to confront the most frightening possibility of all:
that he was never meant to be easy to lose.

Summary
Buck and Eddie got together shortly after the ladder truck bombing, Buck moves in with Eddie during his recovery and no one really questions it. The only people they actually tell they are dating are Chris, Carla, abuela and Tía Pepa. That is until Buck and Chris get stuck in the tsunami, anyways. Because whilst on top of the 136's truck, after saving as many as he could, Buck realises a few things about himself.
1 - he is a male carrier.
2 - he is pregnant.
3 - he is having a miscarriage. Whilst on blood thinners.
With no way of getting help to them any time soon, Buck is struggling to come to grips with those realisations, with trying (and probably failing) not to traumatise Chris too much more, and with his feelings regarding everything that was happening on top of the truck, and how he was going to tell Eddie, and, well, everything. Why didn't his parents get him tested? Why didn't he get himself tested when he left them?
How would they get through this?
With the help of their family, and each other, they might be able to. Just so long as he survives long enough to make it off the fire truck and back home.
And don't you worry, they will be happy, and have a baby eventually.Bookmarked by Dems

Summary
To Buck, the most terrifying part about being diagnosed with stage three cancer was the thought of leaving his daughter alone. So, to prepare his family for the worst case scenario, Buck teaches Eddie how to be a father to his little girl.
Turns out, Eddie didn't need to learn how to love Tilly and Buck like his own. He'd already been doing that for a long time.

Summary
Buck took Tommy’s hands in his own. “Look, Tommy, I- I know we’re going through a- a rough patch right now, but it’s just that, a rough patch. It- things can get better, things will get better, we just have to- to put in the work. We have to fight for it,”
Tommy gave Evan a small, sad smile and squeezed Evan’s hands gently, his own wedding ring pressing against his fingers, his thumb over Evan’s ring. “I just don’t know that there’s anything left worth fighting for. I still love you, Evan, I never stopped, but I think it’s time we let each other go.”
---
Buck and Tommy get divorced after a devastating loss, only for Buck to find out afterwards that he's pregnant again with Tommy's baby forcing them to navigate their grief, anxieties, how to co-parent as a divorced couple, and the fact that they're both still very much in love with each other

Summary
It started with a headache.
Or a hug, after the gate slammed down on a rented U-Haul, ready to take his Alpha friend 800 miles away from him. His nose buried in Eddie’s neck, chasing his scent straight from the source before it moved out of reach.
Or maybe it started with a lightning strike, a gunshot, a wave, a bomb, a grenade. An unfamiliar Alpha in the locker room, with a killer smile and an 8-pack.
But Buck first became aware of it as a thumping in his skull as he closed the door to
Eddie’shis house.-------

“What can I do? Should I tell Bobby I’m leaving? Should I go with you—“
“No!”
“Tell your parents to fuck off?”
“Oh my God, Eddie. It’s not that simple!”
“Really?” He crosses his arms. “I could do it. Simply. Let me do it.” Buck covers his eyes. He hears Eddie’s breath, clearer and clearer, the closer he gets, until he’s putting a hand on Buck’s arm. “Let me do it, sweetheart.”

Summary
“With your recent blood test we've found evidence of you having “ASA”.”
Buck’s nervous smile faded. He sat straighter.
“ASA?”Dr. Rodriguez took a breath. “ASA stands for Antisperm antibodies”
Bucks breath hitched. He had never even heard of ASA before, but the uneasy look on Dr. Rodriguez's face - and the way his own nerves were written all over his expression. Told him this was something serious. He braced himself silently urging the doctor to explain further.
“Antisperm antibodies is when your immune system recognizes your sperm as foreign, causing your body to release antibodies that attach itself to your sperm and making natural conception extremely difficult for you.”
Buck was starting to feel his heart beat faster, his words coming out shaky.
“Wait- my immune system… is attacking my s-perm? What does t-that exactly mean?”Dr. Rodriguez takes a moment to look at Buck and in the calmest way, breaks the news to him.
“Mr. Buckley, I'm sorry to inform you but, you're sterile."+
Or: After the lightning strike, Buck finds out he's sterile.

Summary
“It was a date. When you and Marisol ran into me and Tommy, it was a date.”
“Marisol thought she was pregnant and I realized that I do actually want another kid, but not with her.”
The simultaneous, overlapping confessions hang in the air like an executioner's axe as Buck and Eddie stare at each other with wide eyes, both blue screening a little as they process the dual bombs just dropped.
Eddie recovers first, his head shaking slightly. “Wait, you and Tommy? So you’re-?”
Buck makes a pained noise, hands flying through the air once he finally gets his brain working again. “Uh uh, that is not the important thing here; Marisol is pregnant?!”

And he’s calling Maddie like he promised he would years ago. And she doesn’t pick up, because she’s gone too. And his breathing is fast and there’s tears running down his cheeks and he speaks into the phone “It’s getting bad again Mads. I said I’d tell you if it did. And I think now, it’s getting bad again.”
But he hears the familiar voice of the answering machine “this mailbox is full and not accepting new messages”, so he wipes his face and puts down the phone.
(Or Buck struggles during season 5 when everyone seems to leave, mind plagued with images of Eddie getting shot, and it all just spirals and spirals and spirals. But at least there are people there to catch him when he falls.)

Summary
Evan Buckley sues the city after he is told he's not allowed to return as a firefighter because his captain - who he had viewed as a father - thinks he wasn't capable anymore.
But when he realises that the lawsuit wasn't the way to go, it's too late and he's being ignored by the whole of the 118. So when he goes to the doctors for a routine check in after all that had happened with his leg in less than a couple months and is told that there may be something much worse wrong with him - he has no one to go to. No one to lean on. No one to help.
So when it's confired that Evan 'Buck' Buckley has cancer and that was the real cause behind his pulmonary embolism, he runs.
He tells no one. He quits the 118. Leaves fire fighting behind. And decides that without his family, there's no reason to fight the cancer.

Summary
Seriously, this isn’t how Buck wants to spend Eddie’s last days in town; he’s really content to swallow it down again, keep the peace. He’s going to tell him he put in the notice on the loft, and they’re going to head to the bar with their family, and they’re both going to smile while Eddie drives away, even if it kills them. That is, until Eddie says it.
“If you're going to make this about me having to choose between you or my son, you’re going to lose. Every time.”
In hindsight, he really wishes he could have taken a deep breath, said no, c’mon, of course—that’s, that’s not even a question. He would prefer to take back the angry laugh, too.
But, it is what it is.
