Summary
Daeron was of the opinion that he needn’t have come with his uncle Rhaegel as they traveled to the Eyrie, but his father insisted that Daeron go, hoping the honor and chivalry so prevalent in the Vale will change his drunken, whoring ways.
What he gets is an attack on their entourage, being taken by one of the mountain clans, and sent off as an offering to the fire-witch’s pet.
Except the pet is no monster, the witch is a girl with startlingly familiar eyes, and Daeron finds himself faced with a dragon long thought to be dead.

Summary
After attending Svetlana’s uncle’s funeral in Russia, Ilya is arrested, detained, tried and sent to rot in a Siberian penal colony, as a pawn of political chess. The international outcry is loud. The Hollanders dig in. Yuna and Svetlana assemble a dream team of lawyers to teach Moscow’s worst lawyer how to appeal a verdict. Svetlana sweettalks politicians with New York’s meanest trial lawyer and Scott Hunter’s sleep paralysis demon. Ilya, based on photos, loses forty-to-sixty pounds. Shane thinks about how, if Ilya dies in Russia, he's not even going to have anything to show people when he talks about Ilya. He's deleted all the photos, or he's never taken them in the first place.

Plainly, Bood replies, “What the fuck.” He doesn’t sound angry, or like he thinks Shane is lying.
They stare at each other for a moment, an undercurrent of… something… flowing between them. Shane can’t understand what it is beyond how confused he feels. What is going on right now? Why does Bood think he’s pranking him?
“Maybe we were both just really drunk,” Bood says finally, though he certainly doesn’t sound like he believes it. “Maybe we were all drunk.”
