Cole remembers each moment he had to comfort Kai, each moment he had to tell Kai that it was going to be okay, each moment Kai was stubborn and refused to help himself.
Cole sits alone with his newfound friend Geo, whom he begins to perhaps feel strong emotions for, though he never understood what those strong feelings meant.
Geo comforts Cole, allowing him to vent about his worries for the friend that could be dead, and Cole just remembers, remembers all the moment when it was just he and Kai, just Cole and Kai.Series

Kai misses Cole, so much, the merge separated them, Cole supported him, and helped him, and he isn't there, so what better way to grieve for his potential loss, than to remember all the moments the two had together?
This takes place before Dragon's Rising Part 2, which hasn't come out mind you, but since there was just not enough mention of Cole, and Kai literally got no actual attention, because he got hit by a giant wrecking ball, and was apparently fine just dehydrated and hungry, no injuries whatsoever.
But anyway, this is basically Kai just remembering how he and Cole were, and a lot of it is post events, so like post 'The Fall', stuff like that, hope you enjoy, because I've wanted to read a fiction like this for a long time, and the whole love at first sight drives me nuts and Kailor can go frag off, sorry Kailor fans, but this is a not Kailor zone.Series

Summary
The last thing he remembered was him and his friends trying to stop the merge, or whatever this thing was called, and then there was a loud crash. After that, Cole woke up. All alone, surrounded by trees, the black ninja was terrified. He didn't know where his friends were and were they even okay. He tried to get out of this place, but with each step the only thing he could find was more and more trees. The boy was starving, didn't have a proper shower and a normal sleep for a few days. He was tired and some self-care would be really nice if you asked him.

Cole was different.
When he finally showed up to the monastery, there was something different about him.
Kai had raced to him and squeezed him in the tightest hug imaginable—but he couldn’t help but notice the way Cole hesitated before gently and awkwardly settling his arms back around him. Nothing like the warm bear hugs he was well known for, and that Kai had been wistfully dreaming of for literal years.
When he pulled away, and yes, Cole pulled away first, Kai could see a new sombreness in his dark eyes. Cole wasn’t that happy to be here.
