Work Text:
Lily Evans
Lily Evans loves Remus Lupin softly. She brings him tea and chocolates whenever he feels down, she places a kiss on the top of his head and lays next to him on the bed. They talk about books and she reads them to him when he’s too tired to read them himself. She listens to him go on and on about Sirius because she knows he wouldn’t talk about this with anyone else and she tells him about James because she knows he loves listening to her. They go out and get coffee, walk to the park and sit in their favourite spot under the big sycamore tree, drink their coffees, eat tuna sandwiches and read the entire afternoon. Lily looks at Remus and sees a soulmate, a platonic one, the one person who has always been in her life and in her corner, when she was feeling lost after she had cut Severus out of her life, when she felt hopeless after school ended and she had to decide what she wanted to do with her life, when she first realized her feelings for James Potter of all people, when she had that pregnancy scare at 21 and had a breakdown and Remus sprinted out of a lecture to get to her. When Lily looks at Remus she thinks of childhood, growing up, indie music, and falling leaves. Lily Evans loves Remus Lupin softly and she loves him so much.
James Potter
James Potter loves Remus Lupin fiercely. He would do anything for him, James is completely against violence, he thinks it’s never the answer, but he would punch someone for Remus. And that he did. When a guy started harassing Remus about his scars and wouldn’t stop, James felt a new sort of anger boil inside him, he turned to the guy and before realising, he was punching him. Before the guy could respond, Sirius, Remus and Pete were dragging James away and James kept apologising. Because that wasn’t him, he didn’t punch people, but how could that guy talk to Remus like that? How dare he? Remus is one of the best people that has ever been on earth, how could people not see that? Remus had been through so much and still went above and beyond for everyone, he had a talent for knowing when James wasn’t doing great, so he would appear at his door with chocolate, his answer to everything, and a dvd of one of James’ favourite films so they coulld sit under a blanket, watch a dumb film and eat chocolate until James fell asleep. James would talk about how much he loves his best friend Remus to anyone who would listen(usually Lily). Remus had been James’ first kiss because James was freaking out about going out with a boy he liked when they were 14 and not knowing how to kiss. So Remus offered to be his first try, James blushed because he’d had a tiny crush on Remus, but he agreed. And it wasn’t weird, because Remus didn’t let it be weird, thank god for Remus Lupin. James Potter loves Remus Lupin fiercely and he’d fight anyone for him.
Peter Pettigrew
Peter Pettigrew loves Remus Lupin quietly. He doesn’t shout it from the rooftops but he loves him. Remus always helped him with homework when he struggled and Peter always played chess with him whenever he saw him sitting alone lost in his thoughts, because he knew that was not the best place to be for Remus. Now that they’re older Remus always comes over whenever he hears that Peter has a particularly hard assignment for his baking class and needs a distraction, and Peter always stops by Remus’ flat with spare pastries for him when Remus hasn’t replied in the groupchat all day, because he knows he’s on one of his bad days. Peter admires Remus because he’s so strong and he tries to let him know however he can, he’s not the best at expressing emotions, but he knows Remus knows. Peter Pettigrew loves Remus Lupin quietly, but he loves him nonetheless.
Mary Macdonald
Mary Macdonald loves Remus Lupin delicately. She knows Remus is a delicate thing in some ways, even if he’d deny it until his last breath. Remus is delicate and Mary can see it very well so she makes sure to always be close to him when things start to get too much. She always keeps an eye out for the door and a way out, so she can “Hey wanna go smoke?” her way into making him get some air, because he’d never ask in fear of “ruining everyone’s night”. Mary loves the late night walks with Remus that this leads to, she loves the way his brain works, the paths it takes, she loves listening to him talk as much as he does her. Mary also loves watching Sunday morning cartoons with Remus, when they all crash at James and Lily’s flat after a party, after James goes out for his morning run, inevitably waking the two light sleepers up and before everyone else wakes up. They don’t need to talk, they just sit on the sofa, Mary’s head on Remus’ shoulder, watching silly little cartoons. Mary Macdonald loves Remus Lupin delicately because that’s what they both need.
Marlene Mckinnon
Marlene Mckinnon loves Remus Lupin protectively. She knows he doesn’t need it, he doesn’t need protection, everyone knows that, but she can’t help it. She still remembers the small boy he was in school and how everyone called him loony. She wanted to kick everyone in the nuts back then and she wants to kick everyone who even looks at him the wrong way now. Marlene has a deathly stare and she uses it every time she’s in the library with Remus and people want to approach their table, she knows Remus’ social battery gets drained quickly and she doesn’t want some arsehole to drain him of his energy. Remus doesn’t know this, he feels bad if he knows people are going out of their way to take care of him, he doesn’t want to be a burden (he never is). Marlene knows this, because she’s the same. That is why she doesn’t know Remus isn’t just “stopping by the library anyway” when he offers to bring back her books when she starts to get lost in her work. She secretly takes care of him and he secretly takes care of her. Remus also doesn’t know about that time, after James punched that guy and was dragged away by Remus and Sirius with an angry Lily in tow, Marlene waited for the guy to get up and started to cuss him out for a good five minutes, without a single opening left for him to say anything. When she finished she stomped on his foot and walked in the direction her friends went, Dorcas and Mary waiting for her at the corner of the building. Marlene Mckinnon loves Remus Lupin protectively, even if she’d never let him see that.
Dorcas Meadowes
Dorcas Meadowes loves Remus Lupin like a brother. They love spending time with him, they spend their time together playing dumb videogames and talking shit about idiots in uni. Remus was the first person Dorcas went to when they realized their feelings for Marlene, and Remus, who had already been in the being-in-love-with-one-of-your-best-friends situation helped them through it, and most importantly, helped them realize how dumb they were for not not noticing how head over heels Marlene was for them as well. Just like Dorcas did when Remus was the one panicking without realizing his best friend was in love with him too. Dorcas always keeps a chocolate bar and a bottle of water in their tote bag because they know Remus forgets to take care of himself when he focuses too hard on uni work, they’d never let him notice though, they need to keep up appearances as the cool “little” sibling. Dorcas loves it when they both get so caught in a conversation that they isolate themselves from the rest of the world for a bit, because Dorcas feels safe with Remus. Dorcas Meadowes loves Remus Lupin like a brother and they wouldn't change anything about it.
Sirius Black
Sirius Black loves Remus Lupin completely. He loves him with all of himself and more than anything. Sirius will always remember the day he realized this. They weren’t even dating then. It was their first year at uni, Sirius had done all he could to distance himself from his family, but that day Bella and her slimy boyfriend had managed to find him and remind him what family he came from. His day was ruined. He knew James wouldn’t say any of this to anyone, but Remus seemed to be able to read his mind. As soon as Sirius set foot in their dorm, Remus could see it in his face. “Family?” he asked and Sirius nodded, so Remus opened his arms and Sirius plunged himself in them. Remus didn’t say anything, he just stroked Sirius’ hair, got up only to make him tea, put on Sirius’ favorite movie and kept stroking his hair until he fell asleep. The first thing Sirius saw when he woke up a couple of hours later was Remus’ smile. The soft, slightly crooked one, the one that seemed reserved for him. And something clicked in Sirius’ brain. He had known for a while that he’d do anything for Moony, hell, he’d known for a while that he liked Moony. But that smile being the first thing he saw after he woke up, and the fact that he’d never slept as peacefully as he did during those two hours in Remus’ arms, just made everything make sense. He knew then that he was in love with Remus and that he’d never love anyone else the way he loved him. He couldn’t explain it then and he can't explain it now, years later. The only word that he can think about is: whole. Sirius always struggled with feeling good in own body and even after he started to like himself and feel confident without faking it, he felt like something was missing. After he realized he loved Remus and even more after he found out he felt the same way, the feeling of something being missing disappeared. Remus had been what he’d been missing his entire life, like the missing piece of his heart had finally found its way home. Sirius had always been a star in a moonless sky, and when he found Remus his sky was finally complete, he had found the moon that made his sky truly beautiful. Sirius Black loves Remus Lupin completely and he will love him forever.
(bonus) Regulus Black
Regulus Black didn’t think he felt any sort of way towards Remus Lupin. They had never really interacted before or after Sirius ran away. Things changed when Regulus escaped the Black family too. Sirius and Remus had been practically living together by that point, Regulus arrived in the dead of the night, Remus must have woken up and decided against interrupting the brothers, but he must’ve heard Sirius call him ‘Reg’. He’d asked Sirius not to tell anyone yet, so Remus had to have overheard. The following morning Sirius left early, so when Regulus woke up he only found Remus in the kitchen, having breakfast. Remus had understood already. “Hey man,” he had greeted him, “You okay?” and Regulus had nodded, pouring orange juice in a glass. “I’m sorry but I gotta ask” he’d started and Regulus’ guards went up “What is Reg short for? Not Reginald I hope?” he’d asked with a smile. And Regulus’ guards went down again, he’d realized that he was safe there. He chuckled “Regulus” he said with a smile and Remus smiled back at him “Ah, very on brand with the whole star thing, good choice” he’d said and Regulus’ heart soared “Hey Regulus, I was about to start making pancakes, you want any?” he’d been the first person to call him by his real name after Sirius and he’d almost cried right there and then. He just nodded. Then Sirius came back and Regulus watched the two of them. The way they moved around each other, the way Sirius was completely at ease, how he seemed to float around the kitchen after Remus kissed him on the forehead. He’d never seen his brother looking this comfortable and calm and it was all thanks to Remus Lupin. So it turns out Regulus Black does love Remus Lupin after all, and he loves him happily.
