“I’m Suguru Geto.” The man spoke, voice as velvety as the couch, smile soft, sympathetic, with a tremble beneath. “And you don’t have to go anywhere. Please — please — call for me if you need anything.”
Throat dry, taking the wipes with shaking fingers, Itadori only nodded.
Smearing away the tears, snot, breathing in that sharp incense, he heard Geto mutter one last thing before setting off.
“I’ll get you home.”

After Sukuna rips his heart out, Itadori wakes in a place that's not a morgue, and not Jujutsu High.
He stays there for the next two years.

“Always takin’ such good care of me,” Yuuji says easily, voice low, but he’s smiling up at Megumi, can see his green eyes glistening down at him.
“It’s my job.” Megumi says back, breathless. Yuuji tilts his face into Megumi's hand, softening under his touch, and Yuuji can see an impulsive, wild look go over Megumi's face as he moves his thumb over Yuuji’s lip, tugs at it while his own mouth is agape, as if he can’t believe what he’s doing. Yuuji can make him believe it just fine.
“Yeah, yeah,” Yuuji places a hand on Megumi's jaw, sees Megumi's eyes dart over Yuuji’s face. “How about you let me take care of you for a change, hm?”
Or: Yuuji, undefeated light heavyweight champion, starts to deliberately take the punches coming his way.

Gojo knelt in front of the cage.
The curse jerked back on instinct, spine colliding with the rusted bars hard enough to rattle the entire enclosure. It bared its teeth. Or tried to. The metal restraint welded around its lower face forced the snarl into something wet and strangled. The sound that came out might have been threatening if it wasn’t broken apart by coughing.
Gojo’s smile didn’t reach his eyes.

Already dealing with abandonment from his own father, Toji, and he and his sister's adoption by Gojo Satoru, he has no choice but to move on with his life after Itadori's disappearance from Sendai to the heart of Tokyo.
That is until years later, by chance, they are reunited at university and forced to make amends. Megumi grapples with new friends and a struggle to fit in at school but becomes increasingly aware of the secrets lying behind Itadori's constant smile. Rekindled friendship blossoms into something deeper as they both find the strength to confide in each other after years of absence.

"I stayed. You just weren't there."The distance between them is heavy with everything that was left unsaid: grief, devotion, the kind of love that grew teeth when left to grow and fester.
"If you're here to stop me," Yūji starts, his voice almost gentle. "you'll have to kill me yourself."
Satoru steps closer instead. Smiles like a threat. A promise. "Yūji," he says, low and ruined. "I've never been good at letting you go."
Itadori Yūji's defect from Jujutsu Society isn't a choice. It's a sentence already passed. And when the world tries to take Yūji, it will have to kill Satoru twice to succeed.
