There’s a long minute of silence. Dani just keeps staring at the woman who is staring back at her, completely frozen. The doctor keeps looking between them, waiting for an answer.
“She said her head hurts,” The woman finally breaks the silence, still looking straight at Dani, “A lot.” Another moment of silence. “And she doesn’t know who I am.”

After her voice failed during the Golden Live Show practice, Rumi ran. What she didn't consider was Zoey and Mira following her. Them finding out she is a demon goes nothing like she thought it would.
Now, Rumi's patterns won't stop spreading, and she can't deny the connection she feels to the honmoon. She also can't deny how weak it seems to be getting. Gwi-ma probably knows they were about to seal the honmoon for good and has something planned. Something big that has every cell in Rumi's body vibrating.
If that wasn't enough, there's also this stupid fluttering in her stomach every time Zoey and Mira get close to her, which has been happening more and more since they saw her patterns.

The woman examined her hand for a beat, not with hostility, but something more like surprised curiosity. Before Imogen could yank it away, cold fingers wrapped themselves around Imogen’s hand and gave it a gentle shake.
Imogen put every single brain cell she had left into trying not to think about those long and cool fingers, and how they might feel in other places.
“Laudna,” the woman introduced herself.
“Beautiful name,” Imogen said, almost biting her tongue off after she finished saying it.

The first time Imogen told Laudna about the storm it was, appropriately, storming.
Laudna’s eyes had been swallowed by a blackness darker than that of the night surrounding them, catching and reflecting even the most minuscule scatterings of light in a way that made her gaze look full with shooting stars. She had taken her leather-shielded hand to hold in both of hers as she listened. It was the first time she could remember someone taking her hand simply to hold.
She said, here is what she knows of the storm: it is unrelenting, it is violent, it is hers.
In the time that has passed since that night the same things that have changed about the storm have changed for her and Laudna—which is to say, nothing at all.

Beatrice pours out two cups but the second stays on the counter (for the best since, just this week alone, Beatrice has had to replace a total of three teacups). She tries not to think too hard about it, turns away slightly so it’s just out of her line of sight. Though, she doesn’t know which is easier to swallow: the sight of the tea that Ava still cannot drink or the emptiness that greets her whenever she turns her head, the knowledge that Ava is back but not here. It's almost lonely, this new calm in Imogen's head. Usually at the market she'd be treated to Laudna's light, musical inner dialogue about the ripeness of fruits or the bread Zhudanna might like best, but instead it's just quiet. All Imogen gets is what Laudna shows on her face, and the words she says out loud. Words like you don't have to listen in to get my thoughts. I'll always share them willingly. You can just ask.
There's only one thing Imogen wants to ask right now. It's blaring in Imogen's mind like a temple bell, so loudly that even with the circlet she's sure Laudna must be able to hear it. And Laudna is looking at her so sweetly. Every moment they've been parted has made this all-consuming feeling worse, harder to pack away, and this could be her last chance to say it. Her only chance.
She has to say it. She has to ask.

“You… you know my girl.” Liliana spoke. It wasn’t a question as much as it was an epiphany for her. Her wrist turned in a bit and she seemed to shift the focus of her arcane energy. Laudna felt it burrowing, similar to Imogen’s but foreign in another way completely.
“You could say that.” Laudna said, tilting her head. Wondering if they’d be her last words. Eyes flickering to the golden ring on her finger that a certain witch had given her… Liliana’s eyes tracked the movement and landed there as well.
“Show me.”
