“Of course we’re close, Mike,” he answers, but his voice is meek. Small. So unlike the Will he’s grown up to be, the Will that Mike has come to know after the Upside Down, after Vecna, after everything.
“Are we?” Mike asks, fingers tightening reflexively where they’re coiled around his wrists. That torrid electricity is still there, humming just beneath the surface and mingling with the fibers of his skin, but it’s buried beneath the wildfire that is his need to know. “So you just forgot to mention your girlfriend to your best friend, then?”
Mike thought that this was his ‘aha, gotcha!’ moment, but when Will’s eyes slide shut, and his exhale tastes like acidic dread rather than bitter regret, Mike thinks there's a small chance that he might be missing something.
OR: Mike finds Valentine's chocolate gifted to Will and eats it in a frightful surge of jealousy. Only, these sweets aren't exactly the typical candy he was expecting...

Mike swallows. “I thought I was too.” He lets out a small, sad breath. “I was wrong.”
Will looks back up. “So what are you saying?”
Mike’s chest tightens. This is it. The place where he either steps back—or finally names the truth.
“I’m saying I need something to change,” he says. “Or I’m going to break.”
The words hang there, bare and undeniable.
Will’s eyes flicker. “I don’t know if I can give you what you’re asking for. Not yet.”
Mike nods. He’d known this answer was possible. Knowing doesn’t make it hurt less. “Then I get to tell you what to do.” Will finished Mike’s sentence under his breath.
After finishing their fourth semesters in college, the gang is back in town to visit their friends and family for summer break. Mike and Will were expecting a simple bowling night with the boys. What they didn't expect was the inescapable tension—feelings that piled up for years—finally erupting to the surface after playing games.
