The only thing he could really think of in that moment was a stream of consecutive, desperate, 'no's. Don't get him wrong, he loved Haru-Chan. Haru-Chan is an absolute treasure to be around and every moment spent with her was a moment coated in diamonds and gold, but right now was not one of those moments. Not when he is so damn close to getting off.

Kiryu smelled like expensive cologne and cheap shampoo and he was warm and safe and boxed Majima in against the velvet of the couch with his broad shoulders. Not like a cage, not like a cage at all. More like a blanket, a jacket. Majima's facial hair was unpleasant against Kiryu's mouth, like dull fishing hooks or a cat's tongue. But Kiryu dragged the flat of his tongue over his chin and jawline and upper lip anyway, lapping at him. Lapping at that milk white skin.

A long pause. The longest one yet. “Who says I haven’t?”
Lightning flashed through the window, illuminating Al-Haitham’s face. Half of it was still wrapped in shadow, blocked by Kaveh’s head, but he could see the distance between them measured, laid flat by the light. The lightning went. The room went dark. But the memory of Al-Haitham’s wide eyes did not leave him.
What did he want?
“Have you?” asked Kaveh.
“Have you?” Al-Haitham’s voice was so quiet, buried under the murmur of the rain.
Kaveh swallowed. “I mean…I thought that was obvious.”
Kaveh accidentally sleeps with Al-Haitham. And then...keeps sleeping with him.

And you know, fine, Al-Haitham is good-looking. But Kaveh’s matured since his early twenties. These days, on nights he can’t sleep, he imagines the kind of relationship where he and his partner schedule twenty minutes every Saturday to air out all the annoying shit the other did that week, or the kind of relationship where he’s the third thing his partner sees each morning after the pillow and the clock on the far wall. And Kaveh could never attain that sort of peace with someone who believed that his proudest work wasn’t true art because it was indulgent to the whims of the people.
Or: the very niche Glenn Gould & Leonard Bernstein AU. Kaveh’s an orchestra conductor who writes musicals on the side, Al-Haitham’s a controversial pianist, and they argue over artistic philosophy for several thousand words.

Summary
Kaveh is so, so beautiful. It’s a thought that rolls around his head like a marble, constantly circling the drain of his spine. He feels it as deeply as a wound. Alhaitham wants to sweep that soft hair out of his eyes, kiss a trail from his hip to his ankle, trace over the bridge of his nose. He wants to stay when they’re done, he wants to wake up and pull Kaveh to his chest, he wants, wants, wants.
It’s some sick kind of torture, being so greedy for something within reach, unable to keep it. To watch Kaveh’s eyelids flutter with a soft touch, just before steeling again. To watch him want something Alhaitham is desperate to give, and be refused every time.
Kaveh's life is on a downward spiral. In an attempt to drag himself out of this pit of romantic stress and creative flatline, Kaveh takes a commission to restore a dilapidated settlement in the desert. Just a little time to think, that's all.

“I’m going to strangle you with my robe sash.”
Alhaitham stepped forward. Close. Too close. Intolerably, infuriatingly close.
“So you did wear the robe to provoke me.”
Or, love was the variable Alhaitham couldn’t control, and Kaveh was the hypothesis that broke him.
