Volt has awoken to the sound of Eddie’s pained whimpers before. It is, unfortunately, not an uncommon occurrence. Usually, it means the wiring is acting up again. Usually, Volt would curl closer, press a palm against Eddie’s side, and hum quietly against his skin until the tremors eased.
Tonight, though, the sound is more alarming.

Summary
A gradient of dark blue and pink is washed over the stage, deepening the shadows on his face. His hair is fucking perfect. Not a single flyaway or split end in sight. Lark wants to hate him but can’t quite bring himself to it.
“You know,” the man drawls into his microphone, “a little ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ can go a long way.” He pauses for effect. “It might even make you likable.”
Okay, maybe Lark can in fact bring himself to hate him.

The punk scene in all likelihood saved Lark's life; for a while, he was miserable in all the right ways. But reading Kropotkin and doing drugs never actually fixed anything. The only fulfilling part of his life is his job as a sound tech at a local club.
Sadly, sometimes that means he has to deal with asshole musicians who think they're hot shit.

I once googled it and apparently Adderall and cocaine are like cousins or something? Not close cousins, but, like, second cousins who bump into each other at a family reunion and awkwardly make small talk about the weather. Anyway, when I take coke, I don’t even get hyper; I just sit there like, ‘Wow, so this is what normal people’s brains feel like.’ Which is wild, right?”

"I offer this to you, and in exchange, you establish communication between us," Lark said as he held the necklace outside the creature's reach.
His other hand gestured to the chain before pointing back at the demon and then at himself.
The demon seemed to understand. As it nodded, a chuckle spilled from its lips. Then it spoke back with those words that rang like crackling timber in an unrestricted blaze, a new language that Lark couldn't wait to understand.
