Summary
Fifteen minutes. He kept shifting restlessly. Every so often he reconfigured the armor plating, adjusted the berth’s temperature settings, even switched to background diagnostics. But in Optimus’ absence the silence rang — like a vague alarm, like the suspended seconds just before an emergency signal activates. It pressed against his secondary sensors, as though the quarters were too large; or he himself was too small, too insignificant to truly relax his hydraulics here.
When Ratchet, in frustration, was already on the verge of getting up, footsteps sounded beyond the door — slow, resonant and measured. Prime entered as he always did, without unnecessary noise, yet with such a tangible sense of presence that the very air in the room seemed to grow denser.
Ratchet didn’t activate his optics, but he thoroughly traced his sparkmate with close-range scanners and grumbled:
“I was beginning to think you’d decided not to recharge at all tonight”.Series

“Just so you know, I understand perfectly well what you’re doing,” Ratchet muttered, bracing one servo against the Prime’s broad chassis and absently pressing his fingers to his emergency-access neck port.
“Apparently, I’m violating protocol once again.”
The medic frowned, his optics flashing tensely, and the EM-field tightened, resonating with cautious notes. But there was no cause for concern; Optimus knew that expression on his faceplate well — not irritation, but fierce concentration. Finally, Ratchet looked back at his sparkmate and raised his optic ridges:
“Ultra Magnus…?” Optimus responded with a gentle smile instead of an answer, and the medic snorted quietly, clarifying: “Alright, what did he find? Overdue reports? A mess in the suites? Someone’s blaster left in the mess hall?”

When his optics first come online, B-127 first sees the sky. The Well surges with power only feet from him, giving him a fond farewell even as his memory of crawling from it fades only moments after. His protoform is new and small, his body whirs with clicks and hissing as parts fall into place and his spark begins to glow all on its own, no longer sustained by Primus’ crafting hand.
It will grow, with time, his plating still a shining, unburdened silver. Glistening with its lack of abrasions and experience. Efficiency programs slot into place, and his processor works to teach him what little it already knows. His T-cog spins in his side, inactive now as New Sparks usually are, but it will burst with Energon and life soon enough. In the backlog of his thinking, B-1 can already sense the way the wind will whip around him, struggling to keep up.
