"They caught Luffy."
The words echo in Ace's head like a mantra, inescapable and horrifying. Three words that are worse than anything Impel Down had thrown at him so far, worse than the jeers and the torture, worse than the seastone exhaustion and the knowledge of his impending death.
Gramps says the words with a finality that tells Ace he is not going to do anything, that he's not even going to try and help Lu' even if he is the baby of the family, even if he doesn't deserve this - even if he wasn't born with cursed blood in his veins.
He wants to rage, wants to pull on the shackles until there's nothing left, shatter them into smithereens - he can't, his haki never got good enough to do more than the most basic protection, Marco had been right he had been relying on his devil fruit -
In Sabaody, Kuma is too slow to send Luffy away as well and the Strawhat Captain is slated for execution alongside Firefist Ace when news of his parentage breaks out. Unfortunately for the World Government, they had failed to take into consideration exactly who would be willing to raise hell in order to save his life.

Summary
The sword would not stop screaming at him. Loudly so, even if Mihawk had not even planned to pick her up from the literal junk shop where she had been shoved between a pack of days old flour and what seemed to be leftover leather for tanning purposes.
The only reason he had taken her was because she did not deserve to be there. No sword did; he had no need for another, but would not leave a fine blade to rust in an imbecile's hands. Which obviously the shopkeeper was if he hadn't even realised he was trying to sell a cursed blade.
The more he listened to the sword, the more Mihawk realized her screaming was more of a longing wail than a shout, a mess of incoherent noise as if she was yearning for something just out of reach.
Kikoku gets shattered on Winner Island and travels back in time. Mihawk is the unlucky person who gets to find her. Luckily for Law, this changes everything.

The son of the Pirate King and a double dosed D. The potential of such an individual was almost unlimited. Shamrock tapped the desk with his pen, ignoring the purr he could feel at the back of his mind, his dragon content and covetous.
Would this be it? The first gem of his hoard that would finally make the feeling go away? Firefist would have no choice but to comply, of course, and Shamrock would make sure he wanted for nothing. He would not be the first dragon to have humans for his hoard after all.
He knew he needed to be smart about how he approached this matter. He would have to do this the right way - the old fashioned way.
Shamrock's dragon is not appeased by gems or coins, by knowledge of old or the vastness of the hoard the Figarland family had amassed. No matter how much he forces himself, he cannot be content with the cavern his ancestors had created. It's a good thing Firefist Ace's execution is plastered on all newspapers - it allows him to realize that perhaps he needs something else.
No one quite expected pirates to be that specific something else.
