    Months after the Prentiss attack, Martin Blackwood is having a bad day.

    Relationships among his coworkers have fallen apart, their boss is stalking them, and no one can quite shake the feeling that danger is still close by. Martin's doing his best to hold everyone together, but tea and sympathy aren't working like they used to. The sole bright spot is that it's much easier to have a crush on Jon now that he's decided Martin isn't a murderer. Mostly, though, Martin's just glad to make it through the day...

    ...until he wakes up and has to live the same bad day all over again.

    Martin finds himself caught in a loop, reliving the 19th November over and over again, struggling to understand why this is happening and what he has to do to get out. His dear coworker Sasha is acting very strange, spiders keep crawling over everything, and at the center of it all is a man with long, sharp hands, who might be to blame... or might be the key to escaping all of this.

    (Or: Michael, Not-Sasha, and Annabelle have a three-sided tug-of-war over Martin's brain, while Martin hooks up with the guy who got him into this mess and keeps trying to Fifty-First-Dates his boss.)

    This is not so much an episode fix-it as an episode break-it, assuming that the Talosians are exactly as dangerous as they seem to be for nearly the entirety of "The Cage". It includes a backwards demi-ace style romance in which Kirk and Spock fall for each other early, but take a long time to negotiate the physical side of their relationship, a lot of Descartes' Evil Genius hand wringing, and a reference to a concept mentioned in Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath's "The Price of the Phoenix", in which the risks to Jim Kirk's sanity and career prospects should he develop significant psi abilities are briefly mentioned. Sadly, it predates, and is therefore not compliant with Disco season 2.

    As if anything as trivial as having to completely restructure the way he relates to other intelligent beings would put Kirk down for the count.

    A note: Some characters from Discovery appear in this fic, as it was written in the midst of Disco season 2. Canon has since moved in different directions, so their presence no longer is consonant with current Disco canon. Kaiidth.

    Alois Flitmouse, an older omega, is evacuated from a rehabilitation facility with his alpha companion, Anton, and all the other omegas and alphas on-site, for their own safety and protection when violence threatens. At least Alois is too old to have to worry about going into spontaneous heat due to the fear and unpredictability of the situation unlike some of these other poor omegas, right? ...Right???

    (Set after Underline the Gold, during the evacuation that takes place towards the end of Underline the Black and may not make much sense if you haven't read either!)
