After being thought dead, and losing not one, but two mother figures, Dante finds himself in hell living his life as a demon. He still hates demons, but can't handle human fragility, and is content to be killing demons in hell. At least, he thought he couldn't handle human fragility until he meets a strange demoness who claims to have once been human. Artemis also claims to have met his brother, someone who shouldn't be alive.
Both are dedicated to their quests and to solitude, at least, so they claim. Neither is willing to admit their deep attraction to the other.

Recently thawed from six months in cryo and reunited with Vergil, Dante's more than ready to get out of DARKCOM's basement and start living his life again! First though, he has an obligation to fulfil.
Luring Vergil to Capulet City with the promise of pizza (and its proximity to Red Grave and Vergil's mysterious human associate), Dante finds that returning to his old stomping grounds brings with it a host of issues. Old scars, fresh traumas, strange new powers, and potential allies are just the start. And to put the icing on the stress-cake, Vergil has his own scars and agendas, ones that Dante knows he's only starting to learn about.
Oh, and the Emperor of Hell is aware that Sparda's sons have reunited and are running around on Earth. But no biggie, right?
The pressures are piling up and Dante is floundering, despite his world-class deflection ability, and Vergil isn't doing much better. How much can a half-devil bend before he breaks?

“What? You can’t leave !” Dante exclaimed in shock.
“I can and I will. So? What are you going to do? Take my choice away again ? Then what ? Hold me prisoner in that shop of yours ? Should I call you “Master”, like Mundus ? Will you chain me to another wall, so that I can’t run away as well? ” Vergil scoffed, poison dripping from his words.
“You know what? Yeah, maybe I will. At least I’ll be sure that you won’t be going on another rampage.” Dante openly mocked him. “ You got any other kid to mangle?”
“Then let’s settle this once and for all.” The blue twin hissed.
“Fine. One last duel, but I have a condition.” Dante smirked. “If you win, I won’t interfere with your life ever again. Whatever you do, you’ll have my blessing.”
“And if I lose ?” The blue twin asked, his razor sharp focus on Dante.
“I’ll take the Yamato and you’ll become my slave. I’ll be free to do whatever I wish to you, and you won’t ever be free again.” The hunter hoped that the fear of captivity would be enough to snap him out of his rage.
“Fine.” Vergil whispered and Dante felt his blood turn cold. Shit.

My favorite pastime is designing semi-logical anatomy and physiology rules for nonhumans and Dante is no exception. Each chapter focuses on a different feature of his anatomy and a different headcanon surrounding it. Some are Darkcom lab rat exploration, some just Mary (And Dante. He doesn’t know what he is either) discovering things in the field.
ADD ON: I’ve gotten into the weeds with some of these chapters at this point so I’m gonna say it loud and clear: I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. Please do not use anything you might or might not learn in this fic for anything real. Not on you, not on anyone else. “Hero or not, we’re not letting him off the hook just like that,” Revali’s voice climbed an octave. “He’s too dangerous— we saw what he’s capable of. We have to kill him while he’s still weakened!”
“We aren’t killing him,” Zelda asserted again. This time, she lifted her eyes. Her voice held a note of cautiousness, but it was still unshakeable.
“If we’re to even hope to defeat the Demon King, we need the hero on our side. We have to take him with us.”
[In which Link was raised as Ganon’s right hand man, but Zelda and the Champions snatch him away.]
