Summary
One day on the surface Zagreus receives his first ever prayer from a mortal, requesting his aid in the form of a boon.
The problem is, Zagreus has no idea how to answer it, and even worse, he can only hear the prayer while he is on the surface where his body is actively dying by the second.

On an objective level, emotions are a weakness to be exploited. Damian has been trained to be nothing but a weapon, and weapons aren’t supposed to feel. On an objective level, he knows this. On a deeper, more primal level that he didn’t think died so much as never existed in the first place, he has always been a broken blade from the day he was born.

Summary
He reaches out once more, dropping a hand onto Jon’s shoulder this time. Pushing the man back onto the sofa with a slow and deliberate motion. Normally, worrying about the force he uses with Jon is entirely pointless. He can be as rough as he’d like, bite and claw and shove with no ill effect.
That is… not the case here. Now, it’s as if the roles are reversed. As if Damian must watch his own strength, restrain himself from breaking skin too enthusiastically. Jon doesn’t seem to mind the smattering of bruises that Damian’s left trailing up his collarbone yesterday or the nips of red between his thighs from the day before that– but anything more seems to be pushing it.
Pain and pleasure balance, but Jon does not enjoy hurting. Not in the same way that Damian has begged from him.

There were three possibilities:
One: Jon was telling the truth—and so were Damian’s memories—and Damian’s childhood best friend really had been abducted at age eleven by a mysterious woman who had made everyone forget he ever existed, even his own father.
Two: Damian’s memories were accurate, but the thing Damian had met in the park was not Jon, and was using his memories to manipulate Damian for some nefarious purpose, presumably connected to whatever had made Jon disappear in the first place.
Three: Jon Kent had never existed, and the thing in the park had implanted those memories in Damian’s mind—again, for nefarious purposes.
It was tempting to believe in the first option. Damian’s memories of Jon were so clear: clinging to Goliath’s back and laughing as they soared through the night sky. Crouching by his open window, daring Jon to be bad for once and sneak out. Swearing to Superman that he would protect him.
If Jon was real, Damian had failed profoundly to keep that promise.
