Kyouji crosses the line he told himself he never would.
He wasn’t a man of morals, but a yakuza had to have a code to survive; Kyouji’s code said he would never be the one to step over the line with Satomi, but anything else was fair game.
So when Satomi had tried to hit him with his version of the ‘what are we?’ talk, Kyouji had turned it back on him. If he’d responded in the way Satomi so obviously wanted him to, that would be the end of him. He’d be the one who had truly ruined Satomi’s life, instead of just the one who’d only kinda ruined it. It was a small distinction, but now Kyouji was clinging to that distinction the same way Satomi had clung to him.

Calling it a box would have been more honest. Four walls, a ceiling low enough that Peter felt like he’d bang his head trying to stand up from unpacking, and a window that technically opened but jammed half the time. The place smelled faintly of mildew, maybe because of the carpet - or maybe because this whole building had given up on life a few decades ago and was just waiting for someone merciful to bulldoze it.
He told himself it was fine. He told himself worse things had happened. Which, technically, was true.
That didn’t make him feel any better.

After Xerxes, Breda’s travel report makes Roy think that Ed is pregnant. When he tries to raise the subject with Ed, he doesn’t make it better, instead taking Roy’s concern as another point for his theory that Al’s body is still connected to his own. This miscommunication leaves Roy with the impression that Ed is pregnant, before he leaves and is then MIA after Briggs. In the run up to the Promised Day, Roy is worried about Ed and the baby’s well being after getting hurt like that, as well as sick with guilt for letting Ed leave. For getting him caught up in this in the first place.

Summary
