Buck and Eddie were childhood neighbors, best friends, and almost lovers. Now, being next door neighbors meant Eddie heard everything next door. From the screaming matches, the glass breaking, and sometimes the sound of a hand connecting to a cheek. Buck on the other end, was victim to all of the vile sounds Eddie had heard over the fence. Buck wasn't exempt to hearing sounds over the fence. Screaming matches as well, the occasional door slam, never any hitting though.
Buck and Eddie had known each other since 5th grade—Buck moved after a messy CPS case that had his parents angry and nervous— they'd been inseparable ever since Eddie had asked Buck if he was okay and "Where did that bruise on your eyebrow come from?”
They'd grown up together. Phases of their lives passed by, awkward middle school photos to high school graduation. But they'd always kept their same promise.

Once they were settled Evan looked over only to be greeted by the most gorgeous man he had ever seen in his life.
They made eye contact and the man smiled at him, showing off perfect teeth and expressive brown eyes, the olive green of his jacket making them pop. His arms were lazily draped over the bar, poles in hand.
“Hey.” The man said.
“Hey.” Evan replied.
“Well, looks like you’re stuck with me for the next ten minutes Evan, sorry to crash your solo ride.”
“H-how do you know my name?” He asked, feeling very flustered.
The man chuckled, his eyes crinkling with it, “You’re wearing a name badge.” He reminded him. Shit, of course, his name badge, “I’m Eddie, in case you were wondering.”

The aftermath of the lawsuit was brutal on everyone, and everyone involved was hurt one way or another. So for the past few weeks, Buck kept a low profile when he came back, kept everything on a subdued level, as to not step on anyone's toes. Weeks turned into a month, then it became months. Hen was at least polite when she declined; Chimney would scoff at him, Eddie ignored him, and Bobby kept their relationship purely professional.

“Chris was taken,” Buck pushes on, voice cracking as the words spill out of him. He takes another step back and Eddie feels the loss immediately, his body turning cold in Buck’s absence. And as Buck watched the red brake lights of his Jeep disappear into the distance, clutching his prescription of blood thinners tightly to his chest... there was really only one thing left to do.
